Do you save plastic containers and lids?
« on: July 17, 2015, 03:32:48 am »
Some lunch meats and deli food like cole slaw are sold in clear plastic
containers that we can reuse. Do you throw yours out or save them.
I have so many that I had to put some in my storage cabinet.
They come in handy when you have company for dinner and
They take food home.

When I get too many though, Ido throw them out.

Yes, I do save plastic containers and lids.  These are great for storing and preserving leftovers.  Have a great day!

I save the clear ones that lunch meat comes in, for sharing leftovers or for using in the freezer. Because they're stackable and don't take up a lot of room in my cabinets.
The others,  I've used for starting plants in and for crafting.

I do.  THen when the drawer gets too full, I start to toss them.  And, sometimes, if they have turned into little houses for creatures growing in my frig., I toss them without even opening them up.  Ugh!

Nope. I don't seem to buy anything that comes in containers like that.

I've saved and reused the clear containers for years.  All other plastic containers get recycled.  If I wind up with a science experiment in one I put the food in my compost and recycle the container.  We don't need more plastic in the landfills.

These days I'm saving certain, plain glass jars with the idea of gradually shifting to storing food in glass instead of plastic.  They say the plastics can leech into our food and give us hormone problems.

I save some, and I also reuse some for storing small things like beads, buttons and that sort of thing. I hate throwing into the garbage when we do not have a recycling program but you can just use so man or store them. I try not to buy much in plastic containers.

These days I rarely buy lunch meats if they are not in a container that I can reuse. I generally buy two containers a week and my wife, seemingly, leaves that many at work on a daily basis. I will cook a ham or turkey breast every other week because it is a much less expensive way with which to have sandwich meat on hand. I am very good about bringing my containers home every day and hand washing them so that they last longer.  My wife will bring a large bag of them home every other week or so, pop them in the dishwasher and end up burning them.  She also has a habit of losing the tops to all of these containers as well ( I keep them in a neat stack in the Tupperware drawer.

Yeah big butter containers are the best... And if you like to cook for other people, you won't ever worry about losing any unreturned Tupperware
