Hawaii
« on: July 17, 2015, 09:50:22 pm »
I just booked a trip to Hawaii.  I am going to fly to Honolulu and then cruise on the Norwegian Pride of America.  Tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am looking for a budget / boutique hotel near wherever the ship sails from.  Does it sail from Aloha Tower? Is that the same as the Port of Honolulu?

 :)

If I were you I'd check on the internet, bostonphil. I'm sure all these questions could be answered that way. I personally don't know the answers to your questions and I replied because you hadn't had any replies yet. Can't you ask your travel agent? I'm sure their commission on the booking would make them amenable to any questions you may have.

Are you going alone? I hope you have loads of fun.  It sounds wonderful. I also hope you are staying there long enough to enjoy your vacay. Hopefully, it's a two week cruise at least.

BTW, I thought the flight to Hawaii was a little bit scary just being over nothing but water for HOURS at a time!  :o

I have been doing my own research but I am momentarily overwhelmed by all the info out there. I was hoping that someone who had been to Hawaii and on the cruise might help.

My cruise consultant has not been to Hawaii or done the cruise and he could not assist me other than to tell me their partner hotel in Honolulu is the Marriott, which is very expensive and gets just so so reviews. However I will be calling the Norwegian cruise consultant who books the Marriott for more info.

I have plenty of time because I do not fly out until Thanksgiving.

It is a seven day cruise going to four islands. I will spend two days in Honolulu before cruising. The trip is very expensive and I will not be able to spend any more time.   I am very excited about this trip although it is a little more money than I should be spending.

Bostonphil, I can't help you out as it has been quite awhile since I was there.  Although I have been a total of three times, the last time was about 15 years ago and I stayed with family who lived there at the time.  My favorite islands were Maui and Kauai.  I loved it there, but lord knows how it is today.

I wish you a GREAT time.  I am truly envious.  ENJOY, ENJOY, enjoy!

I was in Hawaii only one time and it was many years ago.  Unfortunately I didn't get to any islands except Oahu because of the extra cost that I couldn't afford.  I'm sure you'll have a great time and the cruise sounds like a fantastic way to see the other islands.

Bostonphil, I went on that cruise a few years back, it's a wonderful experience! I didn't stay within Honolulu before so I can't tell you about hotels, but I do know that it's docked in one of the busier parts of port: shouldn't be too hard to find an address if you look up cruise ship pier and go from there.

I remember that one of our stops was cancelled due to a hurricane when I was onboard, but the waters were still calm and lovely. The beaches/snorkeling are amazing and do whatever you can to get close to (or above, I heard air trips are incredible) on Kawaii if you can afford it, it's by far the most beautiful island in my opinion.

Booking a package deal that includes some combination of airfare, accommodations, rental car, meals, airport and baggage transfers, sightseeing, and more is usually the most cost-effective way to travel to Hawaii. Liberty Travel (tel. 888/271-1584; www.libertytravel.com), for instance, one of the biggest packagers in the Northeast, usually boasts a full-page ad in Sunday papers
