Are you nervous about going to movie theaters? Should security be changed?

I do occasionally think about it when I go, but this could happen anywhere that there is a group of people and I'm not going to just stay home, so not much to do about it.

The best movie theater is the one in your living room these days.

I stopped long ago after the Colorado shooting, I will gladly wait a year or more for a movie to come out on HBO or what not

I fully expect metal detectors in theaters now.  :P They're everywhere.

I don't believe you can reasonably expect to be completely safe wherever you are, whether it's on an airplane, in a movie theater or in your bed. Why limit your life because there are crazies out there?

Besides, it it's your time to go, it's your time to go.  :angel11:

You cannot stop the mentally ill no matter what but I do wonder how he managed to acquire guns since he was known to be mentally ill for years, even though he did buy it in Alabama not Louisiana.  A background check should have picked up on his mental problems.

I think metal detectors are probably the simplest solution.  Although, that probably means another jacking up of ticket prices in the near future. >:(

It doesn't stop me  from going. You can't be truly safe anywhere. Movie theaters are no different than anywhere else in that respect.

I was at an AMC not too long ago, & had completely forgotten about the shootings, until the employees came in to do checks... checks on the security door, periodic checks while the movie was going on, then it became unnerving because it was in your face, I don't want to be reminded on shootings, a horrible tragedy, while I am at a movie to escape reality for a few hours, especially being there with small children.   I appreciate the checks, especially the security door, but I don't want reminders, the checks aren't going to stop a crazy man with a gun.   Cameras in the theater, silent alarms on the security doors, metal detectors when walking through the theater would be better options.

Oh yeah, they had an announcement before the movie to report suspicious activity, don't stay silent...     so much for a peaceful movie experience when you have to be on guard while watching the movie I paid a lot of money to view.

On a side note, I saw Minions at a Regal last week, and there was no "reminders"  just a regular movie experience.

It is horrible that people cant do something as simple as go to a theater, but wherever people gather, it will draw the nut jobs.

I dont go because it is nasty and ridiculously expensive. I imagine if they start adding security and metal detectors then you will be dealing with even higher prices. I don't know what the answer is but think along the same lines as someone else on here already said, you just can't expect to be safe anywhere much these days.

Security measures such as hiring armed guards and installing sophisticated surveillance equipment may be considered too expensive for the theater industry, which generally operates on low profit margins.

No security should not be charged. I don't even know that a movie theater has security. It is the responsibility of the shooter and no one else.  Not the person who sold the gun, not the person who sold the bullets, not the parents.  The person who pulled the trigger.  And he offed himself at the end so there is no one to punish.

Personally, I don't like being out in public anywhere.  But I have to work and I have to shop for things like groceries so it is not possible to stay home all the time.

We have a security guy where I work but only one and he is not there 24-7.  And if someone walks in the establishment and opens fire it would be crazy and unfair to charge the security guy.  Or even the owners of the business.  That is just crazy.

People just want someone punished.  They don't care if it is the person who is actually responsible.

If there is security in the movie theater, there should be where you walk in through a scanner and security check your pocket book or wallets for any illegal weapon.  The theaters in my state has high tech security.
