Will I live to see 90?
« on: July 27, 2015, 01:47:09 pm »
I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, she said I was doing very well for my age. (I am almost 80)

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking her, "Do you think I'll live to be 90?'"

She asked, "Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?"
"Oh no," I replied. "I'm not doing drugs, either!"

Then she asked, "Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?"

I said, "Not much... My former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!"

"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?"

"No, I don't," I said.

She asked, "Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?"

"No," I said...

She looked at me and said, "Then, why do you even give a *bleep*?"

Any thing is possible if you put your mind into it. Just take good care of yourself.

I don't think they are trying to play God.  They HAVE to tell you if whatever is wrong there is a chance you will die and what the stats are.  If a person dies and the doctor has told them they won't die then they get sued because they should have told them and not given them false hope.
Goes along with a thread I just started where I ask a question.  People are stupid and are just looking for reasons to sue or start something or get someone else in trouble.

No the doctor does not KNOW if you will beat the cancer or not.  But they have to give you the stats.  If only 20% of people with that type of cancer die then they have to tell you so you know what you are facing.  Not tell you that everything will be okay when they know it is not going to be.  Doesn't mean God cannot or will not heal you.  Just means the doctor is using medical facts.

Dr's should not give ANY time line on how long one will live. I'm talking about time lines...A Dr told us that my Mom only had 6 months to live and she was with us for 2 more years (Thank God) only the one upstairs knows when our time is up. So in my eyes that is playing God !!
