We had a few different pets as kids.  I think they mostly came from friends.  I had one cat when I was in college that came from a litter on a farm a few towns away.  Two other cats after I was married were both adopted.  My sister works for the Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh and our two cats both came from her.  We buried Shadow last fall after a sudden onset of fatty liver disease  :(  but Beanie is still with us (and she was the sickly one who has to get regular allergy/asthma treatments).

If anyone is in Western Pennsylvania or Eastern Ohio and looking to adopt a pet, talk to Janice at ARL and mention that her brother sent you!  ;)

I adopted a dog before when my son was younger. it's a great thing to do.....to many homeless animals but the breeders keep breeding to sell that eventually end up at the shelter. :-[

I ve decided when i get an animal i am going to get a whole litter.  Or at least a few of the same thing.  I think it will cut down on the attention thing.

I'd love to adopt a pet but I live in an apartment where pets are not allowed.  Ideally, I would have a pure bred animals so I could also experience and care for the babies.  I adore puppies and kittens.

Have a great day!

I have never adopted a pet from an animal shelter.  But I live in the country and I've had many stray cats and dogs come to my house and I adopted them.  I wish I could help every homeless animal in the world as they all deserve loving homes.

No, I have never adopted a pet before. Most of the pets I have or had were given to me either by family or friends. I do plan to adopt a dog in the future, however.

I haven't ever adopted a pet formally but have been adopted myself by a few strays.  I once attempted to adopt a dog, but the "process" was ridiculous and I gave up.  I know that animals need to go to safe caring enviroments, but seriously, why should I allow some dog shelter access to my home and determine whether or not I am eligible and then pay them several hundred dollars for the honor.  Thanks but no thanks and it is the animals who lose out in this situation.  I would have been a great dog mom.

I'm so glad to see so many people who adopt their pets! There are so many beautiful animals to adopt and just want to be loved and taken to a wonderful home with a family!

Two were adopted from a shelter that I would adopt from again, the third was a stray that I took in.  I would do the same all over again, they've become family & are loved sooo much!!

I haven't actually adopted them from a facility, but I was always the one to find one on the street! I even brought a chick home on the bus in my pocket!
