Do you know how to resolve your own computer issues
or do you take your computer to the shop?

Most of the time I can resolve them independently.  However, several months ago my computer crashed (first time I have ever had one crash) and I didn't have a clue.  Luckily my youngest daughter and her husband have degrees in computer science so I took it over there and they fixed it in about an hour.  They live about an hour from me.

I try to solve my own computer issues by googling the issue and see what people suggest have worked for them in the past. If I get really really stuck, I bring my computer to my son-in-law who knows how to fix just about anything that goes wrong with a computer.

I had big problems in June There was an ad pop up that I checked on and called, thinking it was the cause of the problem. It turned out to be the solution.search for "my spot lab". They are in India AND they are really good. They do have a toll free number and they ask you for access to your computer. They look at the problem and spend the time to fix it. I pay them a yearly fee. I received identity theft protection for $14.95 a month with the package deal and they found me an excellent firewall internet security search for "Kaspersky"[no cost with their package / yearly fee].
MY firewall was not operating and I had files in my system that were old.
I am glad I found them. I have no more worries because I can call them anytime.
I didn't want to pay someone $60 an HOUR to fix the problem. it did take all morning and into the afternoon until 3 pm. that would have been a lot of money for a one time fix.

If it is something minor, I am usually able to figure it out myself.  If it is something intermediate, my wife is very knowledgeable and can often work things out.  She is the unofficial IT person at her company in addition to her regular duties.  Problem is that all of her friends know she is knowledgeable, so any time they have a problem, they call my wife.  She spends so much time on computer issues, that I usually let mine linger so as not to bother her during her down time.   :-\

Some of my computer issues I know how to handle, but some I need a friend to help with.

None of my computers have ever been to a shop.  Why would I pay good money for something I can do myself?  These places use all the same FREE programs that we can download ourselves.  It's really not that hard to figure out.  The world wide web has a plethora of information and all you need to do is let your fingers do the walking.  I guarantee you'll find your answers and fix whatever is ailing your computer all by your lonesome, then you can give yourself a pat on the back for saving money better spent elsewhere.

I mostly know what to do when I have a computer issues so I end up fixing the stuff myself rather then paying some random person to fix it and spend $$ for it.

I can usually figure out what to do is something happens to my computer.  I don't carry it to a computer shop.  My ex-boyfriend use to fix problems with my desktop.

I can fix some issues, in fact it seems like lately I've been spending more time doing searches for how to solve various glitches, than actually using the computer! But one problem has me completely stumped; the computer won't play DVDs. The disc drive works fine, but I get an error message: "E:\ Access is denied." Even my external drive, plugged into a USB prot, gets the same error, although it recognizes flash drives just fine. It's only DVDs/ CDs that won't work.
