This country was founded on the separation of church and state.   Religious freedom is a two way street.  She should not be imposing her beliefs on others.  Nobody is harming HER, SHE is not being forced into a Gay marriage.  All she is doing is issuing a government(not a religious) piece of paper. She is not God,  she should not judge.  If she really has a problem with a piece of paper than she should step down.

It is like being a vegetarian and working as a waiter at a restaurant that serves meat and telling your table they cant order steak cause your a vegetarian, if you are unwilling to do what the job requires, time to step aside.

There is no reason to have put her in jail. She was standing up for what she believes in. Sad what this world is coming to.

I agree with her principles and beliefs on one hand but I am torn with this situation.  If you have your own business you should be able to say what you do.  For instance, I say the people getting fined for not making a "gay" wedding cake is wrong.  It is their business they should be able to say who they "serve".  Kim Davis is a government employee and she has to abide by the laws and if she feels that strongly she should quit because the are not going to let her decide what she abides by or doesn't.

No, she is not standing up for what she believes in.  If that were the case she would have quit her job.  The other clerks across the country who did not want to issue same sex marriage licenses quit their jobs.  But I guess she didn't want to give up that $80,000 a year.  Loving money is a sin as well.  She is forcing HER opinion on others.  I DO NOT agree with same sex marriage but I do not have the right to interfere with their wedding.  No more than they have the right to try to stop my straight wedding.

This is about her not wanting to loose her huge salary.  If it was solely about her beliefs she would have just quit her job.  Like the bakery that refused to bake a cake for a gay wedding.  Even though there were 50 other bakeries in the area willing to make the cake the qu*ee*rs said NO, I want this bakery to make it.  They ended up closing their business.

And they only asked a CHRISTIAN bakery to make it because they knew they could get attention and cause problems.  We live in a pathetic self centered world.

If the government would truly have a separation between church and state, the state would not be issuing any marriage licenses at all. Have the government just issue civil unions that would deal with a person's own choice as to who is allowed to make hospital visits, who automatically becomes a beneficiary for retirement funds, etc., but otherwise stay out of marriage. If government were not blurring the lines between church and state by offering marriage licenses, we wouldn't be continuing to have this fight.

I think jail was to harsh and I do commend her for standing up for beliefs. But if I don't do my job I get fired. They need to remove her from office and move on

They should have just fired her for not doing her job, but they wasted taxpayers $$$$$ by putting her in jail.

I agree she is a government employee so has to obey the law but on the other hand that doesn't seem to apply to any of the mayors of the sanctuary cities.  They don't end up in jail and they're disobeying Federal law.  I wonder why the laws are only applied to certain people in certain situations.  Our President has no problem with disobeying any law he wants to which he does constantly.

I guess I think that if your job is requiring you to do something you are convicted against and it is hurting you to do it, you need to find another job. The world is changing, not necessarily for good~but if the laws of the land change and you do not, maybe a compromise can occur within/like someone else can do that job, or you may need to get another job. Think of doctors who are being told they have to do an abortion~I WOULD NOT do that....as I feel as though I certainly, without a doubt, am murdering a human being! So, when you look at that, then I guess if the law says you must kill anyone over 90 and you worked at that place all your life, would you start killing them because the law says so.........?

I, like many others, believe she should have just quit, but after watching her release from jail yesterday there was part of me that felt empathy for her.  Politicians are now using her to further their own agenda and I believe that's disgraceful.  I only wish she would realize she is being used.  Mike Huckabee saying he would spend the next 8 years in jail for Kim was an over the top statement.   Do you really expect us to believe you would go to jail for Kim Davis?  Wise up Kim, do what you have to do but don't let politicians use you.

This is all going on in my backyard ~ a county over from me.  She has been released.  She was released just hours before a couple of GOP presidential candidates were scheduled to visit her in jail.  Coincidence??  Judge Bunning's neighbors didn't care for all of the picketing at his house last weekend, either.
Have a wonderful day!

She was in contempt of a Supreme Court ruling.  I think she knew all along that she would go to jail and is making her point and having people rally to one side or another.  However, the law is the law.  If you can't follow the law and perform your job to the standard, then step down or have the consequences.  I don't feel sorry for her in the least!
