My grandmother raised her family during the Great Depression.  She used to tell me that the "Good Ole Days" weren't as good as folks think.

You're right in that more people trying to keep it simple. The food industry is not about nurturing society anymore it's all about greed.  More people are homesteading, going organic, etc. It's time consuming and depending on how far you're going with it, labor intensive. Simple sure. Easy no.

I find it hard to feel any real longing for the past though. I'm black, female, and I date women.  Hundreds of years ago, life for me would have likely been horrific as a slave. It only ended 150 years ago. Plus I like modern things like toilets and wifi. I can feel good about a healthier future though  :peace:

I enjoy the conveniences of modern life. However, I wish some things would go back to "easier times." Like not having to go through automated menus to get someone on the phone.

I find life gets a little simpler as I grow older.  Maybe it's because I am not able to do as much - but I find myself with more free time

I think we have romanticized the past so much that, were we to find ourselves back there, it would not be even close to what we think it looked like.

It's a trade off - some things get better and some things get more complicated.

I hear you loud and clear! Computers and automation were supposed to make everything easier.  Unfortunately I think that things have gotten more difficult. I think that we spend more time, at least I do, going through piles of data. After you get done with the first pile there is another pile waiting. Companies seem to get bored and create change for changes sake rather than positive steps towards better efficiency. There is also a minimized amount of satisfaction at completing a pile of paperwork and not much reward. My wife has been at a company for thirty seven years and said that she would just like to quit and cut lawns.  Seeing the end product can be so rewarding. Creating a well manicured lawn can give satisfaction.
