Your- You're- There- Their- They're
« on: October 08, 2015, 05:20:01 am »
It is not that hard but it amazes me at how many people cannot use these words correctly.  Even in news stories where they supposedly have an educated proof reader.  I have even seen these words misused in e-books recently.

There have been a few e-book series that I have stopped reading after the first book or two because of all of the grammar and logical errors. It gets too distracting for me when I'm mentally correcting what I'm reading, and I start losing my immersion into the story. Its It's really sad, esp. as you noted when you find these mistakes in actual publications that should have editors to catch these errors.

Even when the author is himself/herself intelligent, bad proof-reading makes them look dumb. I lose interest where there are more than a couple in the book or article.

When I was growing up, we had to learn the English grammar, spelling etc. Everyone had to do well to pass.

it is a shame. Plus people spell like they text, and don't realize that is not correct English for a paper etc.

World has sure changed.

If you think it's bad now, wait a few years when todays' youth are ready to go into the workforce.  At that time you will really see the downfall of our education system and what it has done by virtue of Common Core education to our children.  It won't be pretty!!!!

It can be irritating, especially on a blog post or tweet. People really don't care there. I think people who do that on a regular basis are going to get into the habit of it and it's going to come back to bite them if they ever have to write/type anything out for a job.

Yes many people don't know how to use those words. I have an addicted sister to word correction. LOL Sometimes she gets me too.  :sad1: :silly:

It's not hard for me with any of them but it seems to be a major problem for some people.

Some don't know the difference between the spelling's! As long as I understand, it's ok with me if they make a spelling error!

I don't have a problem with the words but I know a lot of people do. Sometimes on Facebook I read comments from people I grew up with and don't understand how they can make those mistakes when they were raised with me, and taught by the same teachers.

I have seen people do that on job applications.  Using u instead of you.  I even saw one where the guy misspelled the name of his high school and the name of the county we live in.  Jobs are hard to find right now.  And most people seem to just be looking for a reason not to hire you.  So making sure you stand out for the good is essential.

I recently reconnected with a girl I went to high school with.  We have texted a little.  I swear her texts get on my nerves so bad.  I never knew of her being stupid or dyslexic or anything like that but her texts are almost impossible to understand.  And the sad part is --- she teaches young kids at a pre-school.  Shouldn't you be able to write the alphabet yourself before you try to teach it to kids?  I think it is just an act.
