Immigration - Your thoughts
« on: November 14, 2015, 08:52:31 am »

I wasn't sure whether or not to broach this subject or not, but I just read a book that was rather enlightening about illegal immigration. Ann Coulter says, in her book, that illegal activity is another topic that the media will not reveal to the American public, keeping us in the dark about how it is affecting our country. According to her sources, assimilating their culture will bring our country to the level of a Third World Country in a few years.

She also states that Republicans are starting to believe the Democratic rhetoric about the importance of the Hispanic vote. Unfortunately, most of the Republican candidates are now pandering for it, because they're called racist if they don't. Ms. Coulter states that Reagan was called a racist because of his stance on immigration, but he got the white vote because of it. Most of the American people are against open borders. That's something for the candidates to seriously consider.

I don't want to start a war here because I know we all have different opinions about this subject, but I'd love to know other people's opinions about it. Don't HATE me! Just talk to me. I do believe in legal immigration, but amnesty for illegals is one of the greatest threats we face as a nation. Did you note how President Hollande of France closed his borders after all the terrorist attacks?

I don't know how soon it will continue over here in the United States, but I do know that God is in control, and he does not want us to be afraid.  :angel11:

Sorry for the long post. I can't stand people who do that!  :angry7:

Immigration laws exist to protect the legal citizens of the US. We really shouldn't even need to have a discussion on this, but for some reason it seems we are scared to "offend" someone by actually enforcing our laws. If you want to come to this country, great, but there is a way to do it legally.

I think we should close the border, sorry! We have enough people living here in the US and most of the ones coming in don't even care to become Americans. I'm with Trump on this issue, 11 million illegals is crazy, send them back to where they came from! It's time to stop worrying about offending these in truth unoffended law breakers and consider the well being of native Americans.

I think it is mean to make the ones, already here, go back. I don't know.......but I feel they want to come here because they think it will be a better way of life. I hope they can. I realize we have have to have certain guidelines to go by. I just don't know enough to say what I would do yet

Reagan was called a racist because he WAS a racist.

Why is amnesty for immigrants the "greatest threat?"  How does it threaten us?

I'm sort of cynical when politicians and pundits start talking about illegals and closing our borders.

I worked as a convenience store manager in Florida.  The last store I worked at was surrounded by strawberry fields.
During the picking season, we had lots of Mexican customers, at least some who were here illegally.
The thing I noticed, over several years of observation, was that immigration officials never showed up until the END of the picking season.
I've no doubt that the same thing is going on today.

Amnesty just tells everyone that you aren't going to enforce your own laws. Just an added incentive for more illegal immigrants to come to this country. It's a poor precedent to set.

Reagan wasn't a racist. That's absurd.

We certainly need better background checks on the people coming in. Seems like radical terrorists are everywhere these days. :(

Google JediJohnnie and May the Force be with you!

JediJohnnie, my quote from the book said that many people called Reagan a racist because of his stance on immigration. She did not call him that and neither would I.

He wanted to protect our borders and some people did not like that. Just like today. But people will always put labels on others if they don't like their opinions or policies.  :(

It wasn't his stance on immigration that got him called racist.
It was his pandering to the white supremacists, his Southern Strategy, that earned him the label.

I'm just fine with immigration as long as it's legal. We need more security at the border and better background checks. Right now, there's too many illegal immigrants coming over with drugs, guns, and who are terrorists and that's not okay.

An immigrant is not a citizen. There is a process to becoming a citizen and if an immigrant is causing trouble and hasn't bothered to become a citizen then they should be deported. Especially considering how expensive resorts...err prisons, are now.

We don't enforce our laws, even without amnesty.

Do you think the immigration officials didn't know there were illegals working in the strawberry fields?
Of course they knew.
They chose not to enforce the law until the owners of those fields had their work done, or mostly done.

So maybe instead of going after the low man on the totem pole, the worker, there should be a stronger penalty on the people who hire them.

They come because they can find work.

Did You know that Abe Lincoln wanted to send the slaves back to where they came from?

if the current prez can make $$ off the wetback, he is slow to send them back. After all, prez let all these people in so they could vote for him..in Florida, they are in all the Citrus  areas, driving down the pick fruit wages, because  it is so easy to get an illegal crew of wetbacks to come in and there are 2 rates, under and over the table here,..of course under the table for the wetback brings in more money..that is why lots of illegals drive fancy trucks and have rolls of bills. .check it out in any citrus town in polk county, fl.

I used to live next door to the underground rail way of illegals coming up from Mexico.. Don't live there anymore.

Local law enforcement just looked the other way..       ::)

Immigrants can't vote.

And the guys riding the shiny new trucks are the crew bosses, usually.  Which means the workers aren't getting as much as they should.

The growers treated migrant workers the same way.
