The kindness of God
« on: November 18, 2015, 08:18:34 pm »
But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us - not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewed by the Holy Spirit.

Really? There is plenty of times where the Christian God is not "good". He ordered genocide, sex slavery, slave labor, rape, and the slaughter of innocent children in the Bible. If that's "good", then God is definitely good. The Book of Joshua could easily be renamed the Book of Genocide.

ESV Genocide:
  • 1 Samuel 15:2-3: Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I have noted what Amalek did to Israel in opposing them on the way when they came up out of Egypt. Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”
  • Deuteronomy 3:4-6: And we took all his cities at that time—there was not a city that we did not take from them—sixty cities, the whole region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. All these were cities fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, besides very many unwalled villages. And we devoted them to destruction, as we did to Sihon the king of Heshbon, devoting to destruction every city, men, women, and children.
  • Joshua 10:40: So Joshua struck the whole land, the hill country and the Negeb and the lowland and the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, but devoted to destruction all that breathed, just as the Lord God of Israel commanded.
  • Isaiah 13:15-18: Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished. Behold, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold. Their bows will slaughter the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children.
  • Jeremiah 50:21-22: “Go up against the land of Merathaim, and against the inhabitants of Pekod. Kill, and devote them to destruction, declares the Lord, and do all that I have commanded you. The noise of battle is in the land, and great destruction!
  • Isaiah 14:21: Prepare slaughter for his sons because of the guilt of their fathers, lest they rise and possess the earth, and fill the face of the world with cities.”
  • Joshua 10:36-37:Then Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron. And they fought against it and captured it and struck it with the edge of the sword, and its king and its towns, and every person in it. He left none remaining, as he had done to Eglon, and devoted it to destruction and every person in it.
  • Joshua 10:34-35: Then Joshua and all Israel with him passed on from Lachish to Eglon. And they laid siege to it and fought against it. And they captured it on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword. And he devoted every person in it to destruction that day, as he had done to Lachish.
  • Joshua 10:32-33: And the Lord gave Lachish into the hand of Israel, and he captured it on the second day and struck it with the edge of the sword, and every person in it, as he had done to Libnah. Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish. And Joshua struck him and his people, until he left none remaining.
  • Joshua 10:30:And the Lord gave it also and its king into the hand of Israel. And he struck it with the edge of the sword, and every person in it; he left none remaining in it. And he did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.
  • Joshua 10:28: As for Makkedah, Joshua captured it on that day and struck it, and its king, with the edge of the sword. He devoted to destruction every person in it; he left none remaining. And he did to the king of Makkedah just as he had done to the king of Jericho.
  • Numbers 21:3: And the Lord heeded the voice of Israel and gave over the Canaanites, and they devoted them and their cities to destruction. So the name of the place was called Hormah.
  • 1 Samuel 15:7-8: And Saul defeated the Amalekites from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt. And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive and devoted to destruction all the people with the edge of the sword.
  • Judges 21:10-12: So the congregation sent 12,000 of their bravest men there and commanded them, “Go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword; also the women and the little ones. This is what you shall do: every male and every woman that has lain with a male you shall devote to destruction.” And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead 400 young virgins who had not known a man by lying with him, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
  • Genesis 7:4: For in seven days I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and every living thing that I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground.”/li]
Sex slavery:
  • Judges 21:10-12: So the congregation sent 12,000 of their bravest men there and commanded them, “Go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword; also the women and the little ones. This is what you shall do: every male and every woman that has lain with a male you shall devote to destruction.” And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead 400 young virgins who had not known a man by lying with him, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
  • Deuteronomy 20:10-14: “When you draw near to a city to fight against it, offer terms of peace to it. And if it responds to you peaceably and it opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall do forced labor for you and shall serve you. But if it makes no peace with you, but makes war against you, then you shall besiege it. And when the Lord your God gives it into your hand, you shall put all its males to the sword, but the women and the little ones, the livestock, and everything else in the city, all its spoil, you shall take as plunder for yourselves. And you shall enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which the Lord your God has given you.
  • Exodus 22:16-17: “If a man seduces a virgin who is not betrothed and lies with her, he shall give the bride-price for her and make her his wife. If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equal to the bride-price for virgins.

Slavery for labor (only condemned if it's a man of Israel who would be a slave:
  • Leviticus 25:44-46: As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you. You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be your property. You may bequeath them to your sons after you to inherit as a possession forever. You may make slaves of them, but over your brothers the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another ruthlessly.
  • Ephesians 6:5: Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ.
  • Exodus 21:20-21: “When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be avenged. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the slave is his money.
  • Titus 2:9-10: Slaves are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.
  • 1 Peter 2:18: Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust.
  • Colossians 3:22: Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.
  • 1 Timothy 6:1-2: Let all who are under a yoke as slaves regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled. Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these things.
  • Jeremiah 34:8-9: The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people in Jerusalem to make a proclamation of liberty to them, that everyone should set free his Hebrew slaves, male and female, so that no one should enslave a Jew, his brother.
  • Isaiah 14:2: And the peoples will take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel will possess them in the Lord's land as male and female slaves. They will take captive those who were their captors, and rule over those who oppressed them.
  • 2 Kings 4:1: Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord, but the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves (God allows his "prophet" Elisha to own slaves).”
  • Leviticus 25:55: For it is to me that the people of Israel are servants. They are my servants whom I brought out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
  • 2 Chronicles 8:8: From their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the people of Israel had not destroyed—these Solomon drafted as forced labor, and so they are to this day.

The slaughter of innocent children memoralized as "passover", when God chose which innocent children not to kill, just the Israelite children:

In the Book of Exodus, the Christian God made the Egyptian Pharaoh not let the Israelite's go several times, had Moses order him to let the people go, plagued the Egyptian people as punishment each time the Pharaoh followed God's subconscious orders to not let them go, eventually slaughtering untold numbers of innocent children, just so, according to God himself, that Moses's descendants could have a good story to tell their children that showed "I am the Lord and I am all powerful".

Exodus 7:2-5 You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land. But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my hosts, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them.
Exodus 7:14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh's heart is hardened; he refuses to let the people go.
Exodus 9:11-12 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils came upon the magicians and upon all the Egyptians. But the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had spoken to Moses.
Exodus 10:1-2 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them, and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.”
Exodus 10:20 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go.
Exodus 10:27 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.
Exodus 11:1 The Lord said to Moses, “Yet one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely.
Exodus 11:4-6 So Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt, and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the cattle. There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again.
Exodus 11:9-10 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you, that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.” Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, and the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go out of his land.
Exodus 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord.
Exodus 12:29 At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock.

If you take the KJV as the truth since it's the most common version and disavow all other versions, i can assure you, the stories are just as reprehensible.

So what is your point Mffinie? To show us your non-support of bible or dislike for the Creator?

If you are going to use KJV bible do you refer to God as Jehovah?Psalms 83:18.

I guess you feel he was very mean in sending Jesus to die an excruciating death by your mis-interpetation of bible?

Man started slavery.God tried to regulate it fairly. In Gods kingdom slavery WONT exist!

Jehovah sees the heart of us all.He saw Pharoahs heart was BAD on his own!!

We all have a right having freedom of choice to want to question or understand bible.Abraham asked God if he was going to sweep away righteous with wicked in Sodom. You may not understand the bible as many dont because of your heart condition. With wrong desire you wont.Remember Jesus said it would have been better if Judas wasnt born because of the man he was.Yet God forgave David for his gross sin because he was truly sorry for it.Jehovah knows our hearts better than we do!!

Rev 4:11 says Jehovah has the right to be loved, honored and obeyed because NOTHING would exist without HIM!!HE IS GOD!!

So what is your point Mffinie? To show us your non-support of bible or dislike for the Creator?

My point, is that just because God does something, it doesn't make it good. We don't think murder, rape, slavery, or genocide, is "good". But if God does it, it's "inherently good", with no exceptions.

Also, when you  refer to God sending Jesus to die a torturous death, that is another thing to consider. A all-powerful, "moral" God, would find some other way to forgive people of some sins (homosexuals, adulterers, non-believers, and liars still go to hell according to the New Testament), than to have himself/his own son/his own father tortured to death. If he's all powerful, and if he really is "moral" or "good", he would stop people from committing slavery, rape, or genocide, because he would intervene to do some "good". The Bible says that God intervened to save Paul from a snake bite, but apologists say God can't ever intervene when it comes to natural disasters, when it would show that he is either malevolent by not intervening, not all-powerful, or that he doesn't exist. People can't have it both ways.

And also, how can you "regulate slavery fairly"? Slavery of an about itself is a abomination, and if God was "good"  he would have stopped it from happening or intervened to get rid of it in the first place. Unless God thinks slavery is good, which the Bible constantly shows. Otherwise, he wouldn't order it, and the Bible wouldn't say slaves absolute obedience to their earthly masters is in line with the doctrine of God.

Also, God says, that he created all evil, so he created slavery. And if you want to argue that he didn't do that directly, he definitely gave man the ability to come up with slavery.
Proverbs 16:4: The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.
Isaiah 45:7: I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things.
1 Samuel 16:15:  “Behold now, a harmful spirit from God is tormenting you.
Amos 3:6: Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster come to a city, unless the Lord has done it?
John 1:1-51: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it

And speaking of how there won't be any slavery in God's kingdom? How can you know that? There at least was at the time the Bible was written evildoers and evil in God's kingdom. According to a prophecy from Matthew 13:41: "The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers

MFinnie...you dont seem to understand the issues raised in Eden and also in Book Of Job that Satan raised.

Adam and Eve were both warned of penalty of disobedience.Noah warned the world of a flood when it was wicked.Doesnt God get any credit for that?If he didnt let A&E have offspring you and the human race wouldnt exist!Doesnt HE get credit for that?

Listen you have freedom of choice. If you are happy to live your 80 yrs and then blend in with the dirt thats your decision.I want to live forever in a paradise earth in peace.Man has surely dominated himself to his own injury yet you blame God for it.God has allowed time to go by to show independence from HIS rule doesnt work.

You are 1 of many that blame God for this world when it is Satan, his horde of wicked angels and mankind responsible for all the BS!!!

Jesus proved Adam could have loved and obeyed his father under more trying conditions. His perfect life balanced Jehovahs scaled of justice...a perfect life a ransom for the life Adam threw away.

You think Gods people are in 240 lands preachingf and teaching millions of hrs of truth in vain???

You dont agree with the bible because you side with satan. You wanna be independent and decide for yourself whats good and bad.The condition of the world speaks volumes.

Remember what God told Pharoah...ill even put it up......

5 Why does Jehovah exercise long-suffering? Primarily in order to magnify his holy name and vindicate his sovereignty. (1 Samuel 12:20-22) The moral issue raised by Satan over the way Jehovah uses His sovereignty required time to be settled satisfactorily before all creation. (Job 1:9-11; 42:2, 5, 6) Hence, when his people were being oppressed in Egypt, Jehovah told Pharaoh: “For this cause I have kept you in existence, for the sake of showing you my power and in order to have my name declared in all the earth.”—Exodus 9:16.

After Adam sinned God told Adam, cursed is the ground on your account. They lost the right to live forever in paradise earth but mercifully thru Jesus dying it was gained back to those that want to be part of the original purpose of God creating man and the earth.

The name Jehovah means,He causes to become!!IOW...its going to happen what HE said and NOTHING can stop it!!

Jesus said,he that isnt with me scatters. He represented his father when he was a man.

Its people like yourself that help create a truthful witness. My feeling is you dont really care but there are others thsat read this and if even 1 person sees the truth it was worth chatting with you.

Thanx

you only have o believe in him to be saved

I think it goes a little furthur then just believing...even the demons believed Jesus said....

“This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”—JOHN 17:3
