I think we need to understand that there are various factors in our life that prevent us from seeing hardships others go through. If being sensitive to this is "too PC", so be it.

Hardship and political correctness are not always synonymous.  The point is that sometimes it hinders free thought and free speech and that, at times, some use it to the point that interferes with the rights of others.  And frankly, occasionally, it is just whining because some want their way instead of someone else's way.
