Has doing Yoga helped anyone reduce pain?
« on: April 15, 2016, 07:02:17 pm »
I have been told to try yoga to help reduce my pain. I did chair yoga a few times, but have not attended a class yet?

I think it's good for my back. I haven't done it in a while but intend to start up again. There was a show that used to air on Oxygen in the mornings called Inhale with Steve Ross. It's not on anymore but fortunately someone has posted some episodes on youtube. I think the movements flow together nicely and he does a good job of explaining and keeping things upbeat. The episodes are about 40-45 mins long.

Yes it does help reduce pain. I used to do yoga on a regular basis. I need to start again.

I have never done yoga but I have heard the same and I do believe it could help.  But I also believe it goes deeper than that.  I think the addition of yoga is great, but the most important thing is diet.  I firmly believe, from personal experience, that if you get your diet right all of your pain will be gone.

I have chronic lower back pain that was helped tremendously by doing yoga, it eventually made my back stronger & my spine/stance straighter.    Immediately it helps with releasing stress throughout your muscles by all the stretching & holding poses.     It also tones up your body nicely as well.

I've never participated in a yoga class either.  I was however a child gymnast and my body and my brain are muscle trained to stretch when aches and pains start in.  I've learned how to manage stiffness with OTC pain relief, braces and stretching.  But I thought of it as a little physical therapy ... guess yoga would be a good word for it too.

It will help: when I was doing it more often I did feel less pain overall especially in my legs where the muscles are really tight.

Yes! I love yoga and it helps me a lot with back and neck pains. It has also strengthened my wrists and fingers which use to cramp from a lot of desk/computer work.

There are a lot of different types of yoga and some focus on pain reductions. I hope it helps you!  :)

Oh my....has helped tremendously, only doing twice a week now, but use to have terrible back spasms and decided to attend a class.  I attended three times a week initially  and have not had a back spasm since.
