Swimming
« on: April 26, 2016, 08:40:34 am »
Is there anyone out there who does not know how to swim or am I the only one? I never learned how to swim when I was a kid because I was so afraid of the water and now I am an adult with kids and still do not know how to swim. I was planning on taking some swimming lessons this summer.

I don't know how to swim either. I never had the opportunity to learn when I was a kid, and now I'm pretty apprehensive about it. I would like to take private swimming lessons with a very patient instructor that I can trust.

My dad can't swim, and my grandmother (his mother) has always been afraid of water. My mom is a fine swimmer, and I'm glad I got that from her. The movements aren't hard to master, it's just getting past the uneasiness of being in deep water without knowing at the start what to do. Hope you can get those lessons and have fun swimming!

I can only swim if no one touches me. If they do I sink. So not to much fun for me.

I learned to swim really young, though that was mostly because there was a pool in the neighborhood I grew up in.

Sorry to hear. I think it will help if you overcome the fear of water first. Then you can start with those floating devices out there. They have tubes even life jackets. That can help. Sometimes you can go to the city pool early so that hardly anyone there, then work on your basic arm and feet movement. Lots of tutorials on youtube.

My mom made sure we kids learned how to swim because she didn't learn how and didn't want us to not know how.

Our town had FREE swimming lessons by the Red Cross at the public beach at the lake.

I remember doing calisthentics before running into the water because lessons were early in the morning so the water was cold.

We had LOTS of fun swimming at the beach.....the raft and high diving board was the best!

I love swimming as a child we grew up on the ocean so it was a must to know how to swim. we took swimming lessons in a pool and also swam off our boat. Both were tons of fun.
I hope you are able to take lessons swimming is so much fun with kids and great exercise! :rose: :rainbow: :peace:

I never learned how to swim.  I have taken lessons but to no avail.  I realize that floating is not as easy as it looks.  I don't think I am afraid, I just can't get the hang of it.  I will try again.

I know how to swim, but I didn't learn until I was in 6th grade.
After I learned how, I was on the water polo and swim teams.

That sounds like a great idea for you and your kids.  My Mom took us for swimming lessons when we were younger because she didn't want us to be afraid like she was, so don't make your kids scared just because you are.  Although I know how to swim I don't do much because of my contact lenses but I do like to have fun in the water.  I hope you are not afraid of a bath or shower  :silly: 8)

in our family everyone is taught how to float in the tub when we are very young, later when a bit older swimming is easily learnt
