Does anyone know how to get rid of gophers?

We have 7 mounds of black dirt in the back yard that just popped up....I am assuming it is a gopher or mole.

Techiniques anyone??

Putting water down a whole could work but they probably have quiet a bit dug so it could take a ton of water to get the job done you probably be better off trying to smoke them out some how

I'd try to avoid water because you will likely have to flood your yard in the process. Based on my experience with chipmunks, some of these animals can be extremely sensitive to certain smells. I'd try to look that up. Otherwise, there's chemicals you can buy.

Good luck!! I had some in a previous house, I tried smokebombs down the holes, trying to see which tunnels were connected, that didnt work, and never saw anything run out on fear. I tried the gum down the hole, eventually they moved on to someone elses yard :(

Thanks for the replies so far.  I've been googling how to get rid of gophers this morning.
I HOPE the pouring a jug of water down the hole trick works......however, since we have mounds of dirt in the yard, it is more than likely a mole not a striped gopher.

The mounds could be breeding chambers that a male mole digs so that the female/s can fall in with him for some hanky panky.  Research said can't trap in those holes because they are deeper.

A nice high- powered air rifle and good aim would do the trick.

Ex-lax!  Put it on top of the hole; they cannot resist, but it will make them vacate!  Trust me!  I used to run an appt. complex. that was riddled with them.....works every time!!!
