When do you think is the best time to buy a watermelon?

I would agree that later in the summer would be best - end of July. I guess it could also be based on where you live in the country.

I guess it depends on if you prefer something grown locally or if you are ok with something grown in another part of the country or a greenhouse or out of the country.  Myself it seems like the best come from the local produce shop/farm stands.  I recall seeing watermelons in the grocery store during the winter,  I had to wonder where the heck they came from.

Though I do not eat Watermelon, I think anytime over the summer would be great.

I've done the thump test myself... and color check.  But I'd never heard the best time was to get em' after the fourth of July.  Makes sense if you're buying from local farmers.  So much produce is brought in from all areas of the country (heck even outside of the country) it seems watermelon are now always available.  Yet I always buy them only during summer months.  Picked Watermelon Rinds.  Hmmm interesting.

Best time to buy watermelon is around July or August. I bought one earlier and it wasn't good at all.

A great time for me to buy watermelon is when I'm craving watermelon.  Tomatoes and watermelon are both a source of lycopene (an important nutrient) and I don't eat tomatoes very often.

Also, watermelon has a tendency to quench my thirst.

I have bought whole watermelons already and they have been good, so I'll say whenever your store puts them out. I try to get one that sounds at least a little hollow though.

I would think that probably in July would be a good time to buy watermelons!

Or maybe in August, because it's during the summertime, as far as, I know that we all eat watermelons.
