4 pt line

Should NBA put in a 4 pt line, or push the 3pt line farther back?

Neither. I like the way things are just fine. No more rule changes.

it's a interesting concept. Instead of just saying "no" let's have an actual intellectual conversation. Let's look at the risk/skill vs reward. Curry and Illard have both shot an insane amount of 3's from 32+ feet when they were on fire. Curry, being the best of all time, shoots the most effective 3 in the nba. The ongoing joke/stat is which everyone says is "his 3 is easier/as easy to make as most people make dunks"

The above being said, it would be really interesting to see if they could push back the line to say 30 fit, because the average fg% from 30+ feet is dramatically less than at the actual 3pt line. If they did this though, they''d have to completely remove corner 3's or make all the nba courts in the world 5 feed wider.

In my opinion, if all these changed were to take place, it would eliminate the incentive of most people even learning 3 pointers. because the average 1st team NBA player's 3pt average is already low at around 40+% being godlike, 30% being GREAT and 20 % being bad. It would create a need for the ability to finish down in the paint and i feel like the game would be based around fouls like in the old days of pounding the paint and penetration offense.

What i reallly think they should overhual is the ref system. 9/10 games i hear the refs u suck chant. ALmost all other sports have a super simple system of reviewing the tapes and making the decision. Having 3 refs not calling anything when it happens, then calling the wrong thing when it does is ridiculous and old fashioned. I'm not saying this is an easy thing to solve, but it's sure not great the way it is...

PS i think halfcourt shots+ should be 4 points. It's the most telegraphed shot in the game, the hardest to make(especiall under pressure) and it would create incentive to practice and create a meta around it. I say this but we still have guys who  cant make freethrows in the modern game.... if a 3 year old can practice it and get higher than 50%, a big time allstar should too... Cough howard, shaq, deandre jordan....

The NBA already has the farthest three point line in the world, which is roughly two feet farther back than the international.

Move it back farther and the game is just going to get worse. Even lower 3-pt% and more defenses packing it in to take away the penetration. This already happens to teams who don't the 3 point shooters to space the floor.

A 4-point line is nothing more than a gimmick.

Leave it like it is.  Every player is not going to be a Curry and players will just have to learn to defend the 3 point shots.

I think it would be awesome to have a 4 pt line!  It could show off some of the more powerful players' strengths!

I never really thought about it. It's an interesting concept. I think the 3 point line is working out fine so I would say keep it as is.

I would say no to creating a 4 point line similar to the 3 point but only a little further out. However I do agree with San_Saephanh in that having half-court+ shots be counted as 4 points. I think that few players would actually try that shot unless it was the end of the game and they needed a "Hail Mary" play in order to win.

The game is fine the way it is. They should just keep it that way and stop making so many changes.
