A few states are joining this to prevent diabetes and obesity.  They figure the same will happen if they raise the prices of soda like cigarettes.   People will stop buying and start drinking water.

You have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA of what is really coming out of the tailpipe of your car.  You are lead to believe that you are breathing clean air!  Do you really think that factories that have white smoke coming out of their chimneys isn't really black smoke that it covered up with chemicals.

I think the "white smoke" you speak of is actually steam/water vapor; so I think that is probably okay.

For those that like to "control" the rest of us, this tax is awesome (more money in those greedy pockets).  I'll bet dollars to donuts that this tax is trying to get people away from drinking soda.  Personally, I don't drink soda.  It's garbage.  For those who live on this stuff, it'll for sure put a dent in your pockets.  Every time I hear of these ridiculous taxes, I think of that Beatles song, "Tax Man."

"If you drive a car, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet"

Yeah, that's what it's coming to.

Yeah, that's what it's coming to.

I'm curious: Why do you (whoever is reading this) think this tax was put into effect and how would you resolve this if you had the power to do so?

I don't drink soda but my other half does.  They tax everything so it will probably happen i'm sure.  We live in Ohio,,,  it maybe already has happened I don't know.  Guess I don't pay any attention because I don't buy the stuff.

I don't live there but I don't buy or drink soda so it wouldn't effect me.  Soda is so bad for you anyway.

I always refer the soda tax as the sugar tax, since most of the sugary beverage and snack prices increase... I don't really mind it since I don't drink as much soda as I used too.. And I don't use the vending machine anymore since I graduated college

That is not  good for consumers, who surely will probably see the prices rise. I am not a soda drinker as I personally don't think they are healthy and only visit there but for people who live there, I am sure they will see some kind of an increase as will tourist who  visit or may be there on business trips. Not sue of the rationale, maybe to discourage drinking sodas. :-\
