I'm like you, I'm starting early this year too. It's much less bother to do the bulk of it in advanced.

There was a time i started my Christmas shopping early as i worked for a major retail store in their catalog department. i always watched for the great buys for the family and then of course we would have great 1/2 price sales just before Christmas and i always snagged a bunch then. But i no longer have any children and no longer work for the store. Nor do i buy for all of my nieces and nephews as i have a lot of them plus the greats. I told my families not to buy for us any more as we have way to much stuff.

No LOL about it for me.  I don't always do it like I want, but I prefer to Christmas shop year round that way it is out of the way when the time comes.

I should start shopping now. I think I would get carried away though and buy too much for my little one.

Ooooo I'm not the only one!! So far I have 2 necklaces finished and one more to make. Then, I have to figure out how to make a button necklace for her!! If anyone has ideas on doing that, please feel free to share!! I got a tin full of buttons from my great aunt's estate, plus I have all of one of my grandma's and a small collection of my own!! LOL!

Last year, I actually had to rush to finish all my mom's gifts, which I didn't get all done, and my dad had 2 bad falls. I didn't even get around to making my mom's body pillow she wanted! So now, I want to be sure I at least get what I want made for her. Though, at the moment, monsoons have me side tracked! Plus, I also like to bake goodies and make candies. It's easier to do that part closer to Thanksgiving and beyond. Anyone know where to look for a good gluten free flour substitute for all-purpose flour?

No I don't use this as an excuse to shop. I hate shopping!! We also have to plan out the majority of our budget since it is very limited. I was mainly only able to get stuff for my mom and dad, one uncle and grandma and one aunt and her family, and my uncle didn't really seem to care for the gift I got him and my granma (it was a combo gift). So now I have an idea for him, he was looking for candle making stuff and I finally found some, so I plan on getting him a little set.

I also have 2 baby pillows to make and send to my cousins. Family tradition of my mom hand embroidering each with their name and some sort of decoration, like a heart. So those probably will end up being Christmas gifts since we haven't started on them yet either.

Just easier for me to do a little here and there. Starting now, I might actually be able to be done by Thanksgiving! That is, if our monsoons will let me! Bailing buckets sucks!! Sewing the body pillow, I think, is going to take the longest to do. I really want to get all the hand made stuff done first, then add the rest in!!

It's good to start Christmas shopping now, because the year has been going so fast and you can focus on other things as the time gets closer to Christmas.

I inadvertently got my brother's xmas gift well ahead a schedule.  I was at a sample sale and bought a jacket that I THOUGHT looked good on me.  I bring it home, try it on and I'm like "Um...maybe not."  I looked it up online and realized it was a men's jacket, not women's.  a bit annoyed that I bought it for myself and I couldn't return it but on the upside I know it fit him and he needs clothing.

I agree with being able to focus on other things later on! I usually have to plan out all my meals around October, when the candied fruits come out, then start on the baking! Depending on the weather, also depends on when I make fudge, glass candy, truffles and other items!
I have been able to find some great recipes for making a bulk mix for cookies and then using it to make dozens of cookies and bars!! It was one from Pillsbury. I have about 8 others, but this is the main one I use.

Wow, I just threw out the last of the "christmas chocolate." I always promise myself that I will start making Christmas presents in July but truly am not inspired until late in the year,,,,,usually around Dec. 1st.
