making dresses
« on: July 01, 2016, 07:09:44 am »
There was a man on TV who showed the audience how to make a dress out of a pillowcase.
The dress was meant to be for a girl.
The steps seemed pretty easy.
There is minimal sewing needed.

Lordy that takes me back to when i was a young girl 6 or so and my grandmother would make my dresses out of feed sacks. (telling my  age)  But way back then they used to sell cattle, horse and goat feed in real pretty cloth sacks. I loved my dresses that granny would make for me. She made them for me until i was 10. My cousins and sister wouldn't wear them. But they were so pretty i did. they wanted store bought.  I think mine were always the pretties.

I've seen dresses made out of pillow cases.  They are cute.

I don't have any little girls to sew for now.

When our girls were little, I sewed a fair amount of dresses; but not out of pillow cases.

Should file this idea for the future......granddaughters!!

Who said pretty dresses are for girls only? Baby boys like summer dresses too. And what about baptismal gowns? Girls and boys love them too!

I've seen on the internet a tee shirt being used to make a purse. I guess it's a good way to reuse clothes.

My Granny used to make dresses out of feed sacks when my mother and aunts were young.  She's 93 years old and still sews!
Have a wonderful day!

I just walked through the sewing store geez the prices rose much. but than I seen dresses over $100 bucks, and I can sew them, but buying the high price materials that is a chance you may not get the money back. So I make only a couple of them. Nice skill you do agree. So tell your kids that must take home economics TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. I seen those flour, oats, and other seed sacks and they were reusable, nice selling scheme that is excellent

I used to make purses out of my old jeans.  Never seen the pattern for pillowcase dresses.

The pillowcase dress sounds nice I will look it up on line.  My mom had feed sack dressed back in the day and was glad to get them.

It's been a long time since I did any sewing.  If I could find ONE pattern that I love I would use it over and over and over.  I'm selective about what I wear.

My grandmother always wore dresses and I could get into that habit too.  I just need to connect with the right pattern.

Have a great day!

That sounds pretty cool. My mom and both of my grandparents were awesome at things like that. Wish I knew how to sew. I don't even know how to use a sewing machine.

That is amazing, making dresses from pillow cases.  When I was a little girl my mom used to make dresses from curtains that she no longer used.  Being creative is a great talent to have.   :o :o :o :o
