What If We Didn't Have to Sleep or Never Could Sleep?
« on: August 10, 2016, 10:06:27 pm »
I would like for you to imagine what it would be like if we didn't have to sleep. I have imagined that those who would choose not to sleep wouldn't live as long or be as smart. Not being meant to sleep would be worse. That could cause extinction. If a battery in a mobile device weren't rechargeable, the device would immediately die. Don't ever think it would be okay to wish nobody had to sleep!

That would be very odd- but I could certainly get a lot more done!

Sometimes when I am tired, I can't fall right to sleep. I usually watch tv and then only sleep about 5 or 6 hours .

I'm going though physical therapy right now.  (for knees) Some days have been really rough.  So I value sleep paired with ibuprofin allowing my body to rest and recover.  I feel as though I pack a ton into my schedule daily.  And if I could more.  Although I don't think it'd be good for me in the long run.

You should think again. If you chose not to sleep and therefore wound up with a lower life expectancy, you would miss more things that could matter to anyone, not just you alone.

I know what I'm like if I'm deprived of sleep.  I become non-functional and quite crabby.

I for one take melatonin ALOT! its just a couple doses of what your body naturally gives off to help you sleep at night but please be advised: not to take MORE THAN 6G A Day *I Think its milligrams tho i gotta look it up and follow up this comment. or you will have alot of sleeping problems for the next couple of days down the line.

I would go insane in the membrane seeing how I love the escape that is sleep. I'll take my 6 hours of downtime each night thank you!

I am able to sleep longer than I used but still only get about 4-5 hours a night. So I value sleep. When I can't sleep I either watch tv or use my I pad for a while. :rainbow: :rose: :peace:

I've thought about that a lot actually. I think the nightly sleeping ritual is valuable just for the breaks, even if you didn't actually need to regenerate. If you went from activity to activity constantly for your entire lifetime I think you'd go crazy. Also I think you're right about not being as smart, I saw a show about how our dream phases are crucial to learning. Those light sleep cycles are where your brain processes the new stuff you did that day and encodes it to memory or something to that effect.

I thought that already and if that was the case there would be jobs that would make people work 24 hours a day. I don't think that life would be much better.
