Freezer meals
« on: September 17, 2016, 03:05:12 pm »
I've been frequenting websites and have read a few books, that I would love to purchase later on. I've been making freezer meals for several years now. It really comes in handy being able to just pull something out of the freezer the night before, thaw in the frig and then just heat up! I want to get a set of these cool baggie clips that hold gallon sized bags so you can easily add things to them. I also want to get some sturdy freezer to microwave portioned bowls so I can make some "tv dinners". I've found a few place that have them.

I was wondering, does anyone have any suggestions on freezer meals? If so, what would you suggest making? Are there any tools you would recommend having?

I've never made my own tv dinners but that's a good idea. I eat quite a few a week since sometimes I get too lazy to cook anything. I'll have to look into it.

I love doing freezer meals. I make several things that are handy to have when you don't feel like cooking.
When I make spaghetti sauce, I usually make a few lasagna's and put those in there. I make stuffed cabbage.
I make meatloaf but then also make meatballs that I can cook separately.
I love having HOMEMADE food right at my fingertips

I don't do freezer meals either, I like to prepare my meals fresh and if I have any leftovers, I'll finish them the next day.

I dont cook just to put them in the freezer, however sometimes I cook too much of something and will remove half the batch and freeze if for another time. IE Chili, lasagna etc

I do this a lot with crockpot meals. I like to prepare the meal in crockpot safe bags and put them in a gallon size freezer bag. I just put the crockpot bag in the crockpot morning of, set the timer to 4-6 hours, get home and make rice or whatever and viola! I like to do curry chicken, bbq chicken, bbq pork ribs, chili, mexican chicken, and red pepper chicken. Cheap, tasty, quick, and easy!

My son and his wife are vegetarian and last year for Christmas, I made them 10 vegetarian crock pot freezer meals and gave them a crock pot as a gift. Boy, was that a challenge! I had to find vegetarian recipes that could be frozen. They loved them though. They both work and my daughter-in-law was in school so they were able to have home cooked meals ready in the crock pot when they got home. It was their first Christmas as a married couple.  ;)

That's a great idea. I wish I could plan that far ahead. I'm basically a non-planner unless it is a big family meal.

We did a few of these last year.... It was very helpful to be able to pull something out of the freezer, esp. after a busy day at work. Some of the dishes, we had fully prepared ahead of time and then froze, while others were just putting the ingredients together in the freezer and preparing the dish after pulling the ingredients out of the freezer (eg for fried chicken, I'll freeze the chicken, a small bag of buttermilk, and a small bag of the dry ingredients for the breading).
