Inside Edition - Suicide
« on: November 01, 2016, 04:15:06 pm »
I saw a story on yahoo that was from Inside Edition yesterday.  It was about a 14 year old girl who 8 years ago had beaten brain cancer.  But because of the "way she looked" she was bullied really bad at school.  I looked at the pictures for quite some time that I assume her mother had provided.  I could not find anything at all wrong or any reason any one would make fun of her.

I went on to read the rest of the article and because of the treatments she had a "crooked smile" and I assume maybe this is from some paralyzed muscles or something in her face.  I did not even notice that until it was pointed out.

Anyway, she told her best friend one day at school "when I get home today I am going to kill myself, I want you to know I love you and I will always love you".  The girl goes home and as soon as she gets home goes to the back porch where she puts a pistol to her bead and pulls the trigger.

This really bothers me.  There should be some repercussions to any person who bullies another person until they think that dying is better than living.  She BEAT brain cancer.  Only to end up killing herself because she could not take the torture of being made fun of any longer.  I just wonder if the ones who made fun of her even feel any remorse at all.  Not that it matters because it won't bring her back.

People are so mean today.  And I do not excuse behavior of teens or kids with the oh they are just kids.  No they are heathens that need to be taught some respect!  It is a learned behavior.  Sadly adults aren't any better.  Just look how quickly those "People of Walmart" emails are shared.  Or how often they are shared on Pinterest.  That is bullying.  It is making fun of someone because of how they look or how they are dressed.  Some of them are just people who are over weight or dressed poorly.  Maybe that is all they have.  I swear I dislike "people" more and more every day.   >:(

What bothers me is the fact that all schools have a "zero tolerance policy."  WHAT???  Believe me, been there, done that!  When my kids were in school I went through so much, it was disgusting.  Their zero tolerance policy is exactly that - ZERO - they do absolutely NOTHING until you go slamming through their doors and threaten to take them all to the news channels.  School Officers are worthless, too.  At least the one at my kid's school was.  The Vice Principal was afraid to call me because he knew he would get an ear full and did on many occasions.  It's just a shame today.

Why some people are so mean to others? To the point of driving some of them to insanity!

Bullying is a national issue that is gradually being put at the forefront. Why it has taken so long is beyond my realm of comprehension, but it has to stop. And, to be honest, it begins with better/more effective parenting.

Honestly, when parents quit spanking their kids is when they got so out of control.  Spanking is not abuse.  You are right, if we had acted like kids act today we would be picking our teeth up off the floor. haha

The thing is they can't do anything and the kids know it.  That is why they act the way they do.  I understand why kids go into schools and blow the crap out of everybody.  A person can only take so much.  And when nobody will help and the teachers look the other way (or even worse like my 7th grade teacher done and laugh and join in the bullying) what do you think is going to happen?

I am not understanding from your post if your child was bullied or what was going on because you say they were afraid to call you because you would tell them off.  Were they calling you because your child was acting out?

The sad thing is adults are just as bad if not worse.  Kids see that.  When your kid sees you taking pictures of people in public and posting it to the internet with the intentions of making fun of them, laughing at them, or make them look bad - what do they think the kids are going to do?  They are going to do what they see their parents do.  But most parents think it is funny and say the one being bullied needs to toughen up.  But I guarantee it would be a different deal altogether if it were reversed and it happened to their little monster.

CBSTEFFEN - I feel for her family.  For her mom who was home when she did it.  Who heard the gunshot and went outside to find her daughter dead on the porch.  Who had to find out that she had told her best friend she was going to do it and she didn't say anything.  Who had to find out why she done this.  It is pretty pathetic that all they could find to do with their time was to make fun of her for something that you could not even notice.  I am sure she noticed it but I didn't until it was pointed out.

ANCMETRO - I don't know.  I guess it makes them feel big to be able to put somebody else down.

VG7405 - I don't think it is being brought to the forefront.  Nothing has changed other than the internet has allowed parents to get their story out there more when something like this happens.  I don't think it is getting any better and I don't think it will get any better.  The world is not going to get any better.  Things are only going to get worse until the return of Christ.  People are mean and evil.  And doing away with discipline and yes spanking kids has made them what they are.  Then these little heathens who are never told no, given whatever they want, and passed even though they do not do that work, given a trophy because you can't hurt their feelings by not letting them win....yeah that has made a society of worthless heathens who want everything their way and nobody else but them matters.  And the rest of us are majorly in the minority.

I do not spank my kids, never have! I think your comment is ignorant. My kids have good grades and are very respectful young ladies. I say respectful as many adults have told me regarding my kids having manners. My oldest daughter was bullied by a older boy to the point she would come home crying daily. I had numerous talks with the school & my husband had gone to the boys house to talk to the parents. Nothing helped in fact it became violent with the boy attacking my daughter outside of school hitting her so bad that he caused bruising. Thankfully this has come to a halt after cops & court became involved.
NOW I do not care if others spank their children. What I do have a problem with is people like the above blaming ME & others for not spanking our kids.
Bottom line is parents who do not parent are to blame! We have to be in our kids daily life to understand and teach them the tools to be good human beings. It makes me sad how so many people do not understand or care about the real problem with the youth today. Every kid needs guidance!

I read about that.  I think the kids who bullied her should be charged with murder.

It so sad, thank you for sharing. I agree with Dreamyxo. That person who bullied her should be charge with something.

did not hear about it... reading your post made me almost cry. That is terrible.... and above all, how did she have access to a gun???!!

Yes no doubt that bullying is still a huge problem... that also comes from the families though... if you teach your child how to respect himself and everyone around him, there is less chance he or she will go out acting like this...
we can all make a difference... it has to start with each one of us individually...

thanks for sharing!

I feel bad that her friend did not know to alert an adult who possibly could have provided some intervention; bullying is a big problem with our children today, even though most school districts have some sort of anti bullying policy.
