customer is always right
« on: November 05, 2016, 06:27:28 am »
the saying goes.
I have a small greeting card business for greeting cards and stationery.
recently, a lady asked me to make a birthday card for her daughter.
the day after I gave it to her, she said that she forgot to let me know that she wanted a funny card.
she wants me to make her another card.

That is easy:  Tell her if she wants another card then it will cost the same as the first one.  You are in the business of making money not giving it away.  The customer is not always right.

I agree with mrisha. You already did what she asked and now she's asking for something else. You have two votes so far.  :highfive:

My husband and I own a successful business.  We make it a regular habit of getting every last detail of every single little thing in writing, on the contract.  The customer reviews it, signs it and then the production begins.

Any changes they want to make after the fact will cost them.  This has happened a number of times.  We run a business, not a charity.

At times the customer is not right.  When that is the case, there will be added charges.

If I were your customer I would have no problem paying for the additional card.  She can still keep the first card and use it at another time, if it's specific for her daughter then she can save it for next year.   I would realize I had made the error by not informing you.   Hope it works out for you.

Arrrrggghhh!! Really takes away your faith in human kind doesn't it?!? I used to have four corporations, for about twenty years,  and totally burned out on humans. It seems that only about five percent of the population has compassion, empathy, appreciation or just plain brains. I joined the ranks of the multitude of cubicle zombies during the day and lock myself to two to four computer screens at night. Thank heaven for kharma. All the people who were really yucky to me seem to have met with misfortune equaling or exceeding the atrocities they bestowed upon me. I work twice as hard for half of the money but do it gladly knowing that I do not really ever have to deal with the public unless I choose to put myself through the abuse. Good luck to you.

And sometimes wrong too, but you have to do what you have to do to retain a customer.

The customer is always right....she wanted a card and you gave her a card as she wanted.   If she forgot to tell you she wanted a funny one, no problem you will make her another.......for a price!  It's not your fault she forgot to tell you something it's her fault.  I hate when people try to take advantage of small business.

The customer knows what's best for them. They know what the public is about not the people behind the money

She admitted that she "forgot" so she made the mistake, not you.  Charge her for both.

If it were me, I'd tell her I will make the second card but at a "discounted" price because she is a valuable customer.

the saying goes.
I have a small greeting card business for greeting cards and stationery.
recently, a lady asked me to make a birthday card for her daughter.
the day after I gave it to her, she said that she forgot to let me know that she wanted a funny card.
she wants me to make her another card.

The saying might be for big companies but if you have a small business and the lady was not vocal about wanting a funny birthday card vs just the birthday card she asked for in the beginning then it just seems she wants to waste your time or try to pull a fast one to get a discount or free card. I would be nice as could be as it is your business but let her know she will have to pay for it since it clearly was her mistake. People forget things, sure but you cannot make money by pleasing everyone who forgets something & truth be told not everyone you deal with is as honest as they try to let on.
