Glasses
« on: November 09, 2016, 01:26:56 am »
I got new eye glasses yesterday (bifocals)...having never really worn glasses before and going straight into bifocals, I'm having a really difficult time adjusting to them. Especially getting up, walking and looking down.  Who knew the floor could fly up to your face like that???? lol.  They are no lined by the way...does anyone have any tips to help me adjust to them more quickly???

My choice was not to wear them. I know that's drastic, but you don't want to fall on account of your glasses. I know they were expensive, so just keep them for when you're reading or something.

Then again, constant wearing may enable you to adjust. I don't know. I didn't like them at all, ever.

I just wear small reading glasses when I have to read things, and at work when you have to be ready to read things. I just peer over them the rest of the time. Probably makes me more granny-like, but what the heck.

You might want to consider getting laser surgery. I've heard nothing but good things from people that had it done. I think I would probably do it if I had the money for it.  :-\

My friend has them.  It took her time to get used to them, I remember she didn't look down when walking.  Eventually she got used to them, I think it just takes time.  God luck!

I have not tried them, need them, but I'm still able to go with reading glasses which I wear on a eyeglass necklace thingy.  I use my prescription for driving.   I believe what someone else said, I think it takes some time to get use to them.

I had that issue when I got my first pair of glasses a long time ago. I hope things get better for you.

I've had no line bifocals for years.....they took a small amount of time to adjust to, but nothing serious.
I wore them everyday right from the optometrist office.

I was forewarned that stairs can be an issue.  A quick look at a staircase lets me know if there are any obstacles that could pose a problem.  Most times, there are no obstacles; just stairs.   My feet know where they are going, so I simply walk down the stairs without looking at the steps.

I just got new glasses about a month ago.  I have been wearing glasses (bifocal) for several years.  My eyes had changed quite a bit from the last eye exam.  Even though it took me a couple of weeks to adjust to them, I can't believe how much better I can see now!  I was getting a headache through my left eye which was being caused by the old eye glass prescription.  I haven't had a headache since I got my new glasses.  Give them a chance and you will see how much better the world looks!
Have a wonderful day!

I remember when I got my first pair of bifocals. I felt just like you. I think it took me a couple of weeks to get use to them. You also will get use to yours.

I had bifocals once what a big mistake. Among other things they made me dizzy and I already have a balance problem! :pumpkin: :snowman:

Put them on for a few minutes, then take off for a few minutes. Repeat, but do it for longer intervals of on, and shorter for off. So like, put them on for 3 minutes, then off for 3 minutes at a time. Then change it up to 5 minutes on, 4 minutes off. Etc. Eventually, it will work better. Don't do anything that could strain your eyes a lot when you do this. Some people I know say doing this method is bad for your eyes, but it actually helps when I do it. I have to wear mine all the time though.
When I was changing over to my new prescription, I had issues with them, and not just for the fact they were new lenses! It took me nearly 6 months to get used to them and I still hate them! I've been wearing glasses since the 4th grade. I do not like them. There are days where I just leave them off because they are such a hassle!

I have pinhole glasses.
I use them for close small print reading.
When I read, I sit near my window with natural light.
I used to wear glasses when I worked in a library.
They broke -- I am glad they did.
When I stopped wearing glasses, my eyes got stronger.
I have read Jacob Liberman's books about light.
