Some banks are all for themselves. I go for "excellence in banking services". If these banks do not provide excellent services, I will take my business to one that does.

One of my family members used to use Bank of America for their direct deposit, but some of the fees eventually became outrageous. If a bank does not reimburse me for using an ATM (regardless if it is in their network), then I am not going to bank with them.

Many years ago I was a Bank of America customer but I dumped them when they started charging outrageous fees every month and I'm not sorry I did either.

I don't bank with large banks anymore. They're a bunch of awful corporations.

I am not fond of their withdrawal fees ($35 up front and another $35 if you don't replace the funds within 5 days) but I stay with them because they are available everywhere.

I'm interested in banking with a credit union.

Never had a problem with BOA.. Has some issues but they were nice enough to fix it. When I applied for a credit card they had a deal (open an account and use xxx for 3 months get $100 in cash rewards). Didn't credit in my account, so I talked to someone in online chat and they said it is for online promotion. After talking to that person, they told me they will try and see if they could credit me. They did and I was able to receive the cash reward. Other then that there online banking is very easy to use and integration with my credit card allows me to see my fico score, routing/account number, and payments to my credit card. They also link credit card to checking, so if you forgot to pay your credit card they take it off your checking/saving account so you don't get screwed up on your credit score.

Only problem I had with BOA is the fingerprint scanner (my father has a hard time using it at times, and he gets locked out of the account for too many attempts). Another problem is the slow posting of payments in BOA. Although they do keep it logged in the payment history, they need to update the payment due amount and history faster

I have been banking with Bank of America for years but have never heard about the fee you mentioned for not maintaining $10,000 in the bank. Every time they have charged me any fee whatsoever I call right away and complain. I have always been able to get the charge deleted and then I ask how to avoid the charge in the future. It has so far been no problem for me to avoid all the fees they charge. Should that ever become difficult, though, I will definitely change banks.

They were my bank a few years ago.
A letter carrier told me a horror story about them pulling her money from one of her accounts.
She  went to get some money for her daughter's wedding and was told her account was closed. She didn't close it.
 I also learned about "derivatives".
I pulled my money out and am now doing business with Schwab.
I like to buy CDs with the smaller banks. ....give the little guys some business.

I've never had Bank of America, and with the things I've heard I never will. Close friends have shared their horror story experiences with other big banks. No thanks, I think credit union's are harsh so the big banks would really crush me.
