I f you were quite comfortable financially, what type(s) of charities would you be most apt to support?  I tend toward those like cancer research, St. Jude's or Shriner's, those that provide basics to those who are homeless or in danger of being homeless, and perhaps scholarships to a few who show the ability and interest to further their education but would never dream of being able to do so financially.

I'm in no way wealthy but I contribute to animal rescues, a nursing home in my city, veteran charities, and Red Cross and Salvation Army.

If I could I would support St. Jude's, some sort of Pet Rescue, the veterans and those who have nothing.  I would love to be a "Secret Santa"!!

I don't have a set criteria for which charities I support, but I have a booklet from the BBB that states which charities are legit.  :confused1:

You can check them on their site or you can send for the booklet. It's very handy, especially at this time of year when you're getting hit hard by everyone.

I do not give any money...because I do not know how these charities are going to use it.
My used clothing does not go to the dumpster. I wash them and place them in a plastic bag
and donate them to a local charity to help stranded populations: poor and homeless people.

I only give to special charities that I know are legit.   Toy for Tots ( through our local VFW)     The Angel Tree through our local Mall,,,,  and The Salvation Army through their Kettle Drive at our stores :)

Mine would be wildlife, children's and homeless shelters.   Like others here have said, I do donate clothing and household items to our local Good will.  I read about a woman and her daughter who filled large zip lock bags with a few items, pair of socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodarant, candy bar, granola bars and even a dollar or two and kept it in her car.  If they saw a homeless person they would offer the bag to them.   She said she kept a couple in her car at all times.  I thought this was a great idea.

The charities I contribute to are health charities and local causes. I try to keep my money local if possible.

I like animal charities/shelters. We used to give to the ASPCA but just don't have the extra money right now. I also like environmental charities.
