Double Cousins?
« on: December 03, 2016, 09:38:02 am »
Does anyone have double cousins?
I have two, I know I am very Southern, LOL!

Double cousins are the offspring in our case of two sisters of one family marrying two brothers of another family and their children becoming related on both sides of each family making them double cousins.

We are all close like siblings because we were all raised together so closely and grew up that way because we were always around each other on both sides. So many other cousins would get jealous and call us the James 5 or the doubles. We stuck together like glue and at family functions walked in together like we owned the place. I am glad to say that we still carry on this childhood arrogance to this day.

Joking aside, we don't intend on coming at them like a force just happens by nature. When my Dad was in Hospice and family and friends wanted to visit to say goodbye. There was a lot of talk about the James 5 even still. As I overheard some of the talk I looked around the family room away from my Dad's room (for the family to gather) and noticed the family, taking mental pictures because this would probably be the last to see most of them.

That's when I noticed it. A sort of out of body experience looking across the room. Family members all around and then in that moment I saw what the others had always seen, lined up with a look of "the ones" were myself, my sister Toni, My brother Timmy, double cousin Lisa and double cousin Rodney (brother and sister) in our own world, taking care of each other as priority. Visiting with my Dad together at one point where he'd recall memories of him taking all of us together on crazy excursions. You see my Dad felt as the patriarch of our group and treated us as something special. As I sit here telling my story of double cousins I feel even more gratitude to have had such a bond with them. As adults we rarely if at all see one another, but should a moment come up we'd each fight the devil himself for each other.

I would be confused if I had double cousins...lol. I knew of a family that they were sibling/cousins...lol and they weren't from the south! haha ... This man married a lady and had 3 kids were her. That same man then divorced that 1st lady and married the ladys sister and had 3 more kids with this woman, which then made all the kids related as 1/2 brother/sister/sibling and also 1st cousins! lol ...weird, huh? lol

Double cousin here. I only found out about it ten years ago or so. It was confusing, but I thought it was hilarious. I'd never heard of such a thing before that. ???

I made up a song about it at one of our family reunions and sang it to my double cousins to the tune from the Patty Duke series. You have to be old enough to remember that.

By the way, both my double cousins are/were adorable. One of them has since gone to heaven.

Loved The Patty Duke Show. The many loves of Dobie Gillis, my three sons, etc. My husband has never seen or heard of any of them. He only knows of Patty Duke starring in one of the Amityville movie. He's only ten months younger than me (40), but I was raised on these types of shows and Elvis. He and his family knew little of Elvis as well. I could not believe that. In my family it is unheard of that someone not know all there is to know. I've been to Graceland and enjoyed it, met Priscilla and Lisa Marie, he has no desire to go what so ever. Just Crazy! The jungle room, draperies twisted on ceilings, cadillacs, costumes, gardens, the Lisa Marie plane, etc. who would not want to see these???

I've never heard the term "double cousins" before but it makes sense.

I grew up with step sisters who were also my cousins. No, we weren't from the South either lol When my mother died, my grandmother fixed my dad up with my mom's cousins ex wife who had two daughters. When they married, my cousins became my step sisters. We used to tell people that and get strange looks until we explained it. It is funny, my step sisters and I look like we could be sisters because of the family resemblance.
