Having 5 granddaughters I like to buy them clothes. However, I always get them some kind of toy also because I know they like that much better.

It depends on who I am buying for.

I am influenced by the strong memory of hating to get clothes when I was a kid growing up, all I wanted were toys.

first of all,,,  I worked retail for 18 years in a major department store.  After about 5 years I came to hate shopping.  I'm now retired and I still hate to shop.  Luckly I have only 3 people to buy for and I ask for a list of things they "need"  and I go from there.  I don't get everything on their list so They don't know what they will get,,  but it makes my shopping a lot easier.  And these are adults so I don't have any little kids  :)

I give toys the most, I think the kids enjoy them more, but i guess it just depends on who i am buying for.

It depends on who is getting the gift.  But I never buy clothing for kids.  I remember as a kid I had an aunt who only gave clothing and I hated to open her gifts.  As a kid clothing was the last thing I wanted for Christmas.

Since we are basically all adults in our family, we don't exchange gifts but now that we have a brand new 5 mo. old in the family I think it will be exciting again to watch him take in all the sights and smells of the season.

I like to give gifts that are personal, on their actual wish list, and something that will last long time.

That reminds me of what I just did. My wife has a lot of necklaces that get all tangled up in a drawer and she was saying how nice it would be to have a way to keep them organized. So I made her sit down in front of Amazon and pick one out, then I ordered it (I have Prime). She saw the picture, but it will still be a surprise when she opens it. Of course I also bought her an Amazon Fire Tablet that she already has and enjoys every day.

It all depends on the person. I like to find out what that person likes and then I will buy the gift.

I've lately become a big fan of gift cards.  Used to think they were too impersonal but  now it's so hard to find a good gift,I'd rather give the cards so that people can get what they want instead of any old junky thing just so it's wrapped
