Does anyone use a laundromat?
« on: December 18, 2016, 07:05:01 pm »
I had to go to one to wash my heavy comforters. Didn't realize how expensive they are.

They sure are expensive.  I have a heavy king size comforter that I take to a laundromat.  I was shocked at the cost of the washer and then the dryer.

Yes. I occasionally use a Laundromat. I have a washer and dryer at home, but in comparison to the commercial washers/dryers they are relatively small. When I need to wash one of my kids duvets, I have to go to the laundromat. They now cost $3.50 for a wash cycle (I usually take my own washing liquid and bounce sheets) and then drying is on top of that. I don't usually dry my duvets totally as it would cost too much money. So I bring them home in a half dried state and then air them over the back of the dining room chairs for a few hours. I like going to the launderette. It gives me some quiet time to read emails!

I used to when I was at school... The dorm washers and driers cost about the same, yet were smaller and tended to always be in use. It was just easier to drive over to a laundromat and get all of my load done at once (while studying when waiting on the clothes to finish their cycle). Nowadays if I go, it is just to wash a large item, like a comforter, that I can't fit in my own machines.

Only if my washer breaks down and I haven't gotten around to purchasing a new one.  It's been about four years ago since I've been to a laundromat.

Yes, for real heavy comforter.  My husband will go but I won't go.

If i should have to wash something heavy  I go,  But  not anymore then i have too.  Just seems to take  forever, while at home i am getting other things done.  I do like to hang some items out  on the line to dry. In my younger days  i used to go all the time. We had washers and dryers  in the apartment complex, but i hated to go their as they were not as clean as a commercial laundromat. Besides it was  usually in the evening when i had to go. I preferred a  brightly lit place.

I just use the laundry facility that's in my apartment. It saves me the hassle from traveling long distances to laundromat to wash and dry my clothes.

It is cheaper to buy your own washer and dryer.  You can get the cheaper ones and if you do not abuse them they will last a long time.  You can get the Roper at Lowe's for less than $300 each.  You do not have to buy the ones that are $3000 each.  You cannot wash big comforters in the Ropers but just your regular clothes - it is way cheaper.  And unless you have horrible credit and are unemployed you can get a credit card for Lowe's.

I use one for my large blankets.  Many years ago that is all I had was laundry mat.  I would on Sunday am early then go to church.  Most people were in early mass so I could get a lot of machines and get the clothes done.

We live in an apartment and don't have our own washer and dryer. There is one washer and dryer in the basement for everyone to use, but my husband prefers to go to the laundromat. It's quicker and he can fit more clothes into each load.
