Laundromats are so expensive that some people are not using them anymore. Some local homeless shelters have laundry machines in which you can do your laundry for free and save a bundle. Try this hint and see if this one works for you.

Every now and then to wash my bedding I go, but it's a lot more expensive now to use it!

Not intending to pass judgment here, but wouldn't a laundry machine in a homeless shelter be 'reserved' for the homeless who are living in that shelter?  How would you go about that?  Just walk in with your laundry basket like you would a regular laundromat and start washing?  That would take some serious *bleep* in my opinion if you weren't homeless and living there.  It's not a free public laundromat, it is a service available to those without a home.

My first thought was why would homeless people need to wash clothes.  Most of them do not have a bunch of extra clothes.  Not the ones who are really homeless.  We have some in my area that claim to be homeless and hold their signs but they have a home.

My mom just saw a car go thru the drive thru at a fast food restaurant and then park and then the passenger gets out with his sign and goes and stands on the corner....homeless, hungry, and the whole bit.  But they just went to a fast food joint and paid for their own food.  This is why people are reluctant to help others.  Most of them are lying just looking for a hand out.

I do.  We moved into this house with the understanding a washer and dryer would be in the basement after the foundation was repaired.  The foundation repair was not full proof.  It still floods when there is heavy rain.  If we do get a washer/dryer we'll have to secure them to pallets.  So alas, I go to the laundrymat once a week.  Dropping nearly $30 a month in quarters.

Only when the washer or dryer breaks down I'll go until it's fixed.

Only when our machine breaks down and it will take a few days to get someone to fix it.

I do, it's kind of a hassle. I would much rather toss my laundry in a wash and then go take a bath or watch a tv show and then come back and put them away.  Instead, I have to wait at the laundromat for an hour and a half. 😢

mrrangerrick, Have you checked on purchasing a set for your home?  They are not that expensive.  And if you watch the sales at Lowe's you can get a washer and dryer (Ropers) for around $400.  And if you have half way decent credit and have a job you can apply for a Lowe's credit card.  And a lot of times you get 10% more off on your first purchase.

Some people think you have to have the best or will say Roper is junk.  But no, it is not junk.  Some people are just foolish and think they have to have the top of the line such as the Samsung that you can remotely turn on from work with your cell phone.  And yes, they do make those.  Although I don't know why.  smh.  And those will run you around $3000 each.  I think people see this and think all the machines cost that much.  You can also look at Lowe's at the scratch and dent aisles.  You can sometimes get a good deal there.  Especially if it has been there a while.

Some people will suggest buying the floor model and ask for a discount but they will not sell the floor model if they have one in a box.  And sometimes they will and sometimes they won't give you a discount if the floor model is the last one and you can talk them in to selling it.

This is just Lowe's.  Not sure how other places do things.  A lot of times your smaller appliance stores that are local if you pay with cash they will give you a discount because they are gonna stick it in their pocket and not turn it in.  So they still make money.

I use the laundromat to wash big things twice a year and dry them.
