What would you do if this happened...
« on: December 19, 2016, 03:38:21 pm »
What would you do if you were shopping and the cashier texted on their phone the entire time they were ringing you up?  Did not even tell you a total just stood there texting while you are suppose to just guess what you owe?  Did not even say thank you or come again or anything.  Handed me the receipt while still texting on his phone.  He also done the same thing to every other person who went thru his line.

If i can add something. It reminds me of when you hold a door for someone or let someone make a left hand turn on the road and they ignore you.

Once i held a door for someone....was ignored...i said,"you are welcome".....they came back in after me with a HUFF!!There can be holding a door rage as well as road rage eh?I ignored them...they walked away...but the stuff u hear on the roads now!!Maybe better to think first then light the spark!!

Their days are not numbered if everybody just "puts up with it and ignores it" lol.  I can assure you his days are numbered after tonight. haha.  But it doesn't matter what I or any other customer says.  It is all on video.  Not only that but the cameras are very powerful over the registers.  They can easily read the serial number on a piece of paper money.  SO.....they can also read the entire text conversation. haha.  Bet he doesn't know that.  And you can bet they will read what was so important.

I have done that. haha.  Although I think outrageous horrible behavior from an employee is a little different.  You are not required to have common courtesy and say thank you when somebody holds a door.  But as a cashier you are required to do your job and not stand there and text and ignore customers.  WHO by the way --- pay their salary!

If the store manager stand in front of this cashier, then it will be a different story, I won't mind if the cashier is on break, but not on duty

Well, if you wanted to be the B about that and want to make a scene, and not afraid of fight, than why didn't you poke at him, and shoot this, "You need him to share more of his attention and mind my business, if you cared. Then I would say, "do you know how many people are out of work!" reading your blog sounds like you missed a shout-out in the wild.

I would not like that much. I would probably tell her to do her job and quit texting.

I am not sure what you are saying here.  I am not a b&tch for complaining about cashiers being completely foolish.  There have been several times in the past few weeks that I get home and realize an item was scanned twice.  I have been a cashier.  It is not that hard.  It took HIM not her 10 minutes to ring up 4 items.  FOUR.  Why?  Because he could not put his phone down.  No, I did not say anything to him.  But I have talked to 2 managers (coincidentally the first one who was cashiering was doing the same thing) smh, then an assistant manger that I saw leaving (and she saw him doing it) and have also talked to corporate.  And the store manager has been notified.  They are also going to pull the video.  Yes, he is probably going to be in serious trouble.  But he brought it on himself.  And I doubt I am the only one who has complained.  Every one in line was irritated and wondering what was taking him so long to ring up the items.

And I am not sure what you are talking about with reading my blog.  I do have a blog but I am pretty sure you have never read it. haha

The first thing I'd do is check that my receipt was showing the right items at the right amount. To be honest, I do that anyway whether the cashier is texting or not. I  do it because some of the reduced grocery items I buy do not always show the reduced price at the checkout. If any of the items were showing as incorrect I would firstly go to customer service and get the amount corrected, then I would write a letter to the General Manager informing them of what happened.

I'm a religious "receipt checker" myself. All too often items don't ring up at the proper sale price or sometimes the cashier rings an item up twice, especially at the store with the big yellow smiley face and price "rollbacks"...

Some of the cashiers where I work do this between customers but not when actually checking someone out. They also carry on conversations between one another while ignoring some customers. I suppose it is not stressed enough that the customer should come first if you want them to come back. And that ultimately will reflect whether or not you should keep your job.

Sadly, it seems to be a sign of the times that no one can put down their phone long enough to talk to anyone at all.  :confused1:

If they make it right I do not see the need to write a letter to the manager.

Ding, ding, ding, ding.  That is where this happened at.  I have talked to a friend this morning that is a manager there this morning.  And he has been in trouble for the same thing more than once.  Obviously he does not care.
That is why I involved corporate.  Maybe they will be forced to deal with the problem.

Texting or even having your phone on the floor is against company policy.  Texting between customers would be okay if they put the phone down as soon as a customer walks up.  Not finish your conversation first.  I have seen them talk to each other and ignore the customer standing there.  Had it happen to me.    People are just rude and self-centered.  Where I live there is no where else to shop and most cannot drive to another town so you just put up with it.  Some offenses should be automatic dismissal.  Texting while not on break should be one of them.  You are not being paid to text your friends.  And I could see his phone and I could see what he was doing.

Definitely let the manager know of the cashier's rudeness to customers.
