My mother keeps breaking out
« on: January 05, 2017, 10:10:46 am »
My mother keeps breaking out in hives. She is allergic to something and we cannot figure out what it is.

The only way to figure that out is the process of elimination.  Start with one food item and eliminate them one at a time.  Soon you will  discover which one does it.  Good luck.

Oh no, that's horrible :(

If it's time for her yearly check-ups, maybe she can request an allergy blood test?

sorry I dont know much about hives, its not just triggered by food is it? Could it be something new in the house, or stress too?

Maybe her keeping a journal of what she eats, does during the day might help?

I have heard they are torture!

It is not only food and  household items that will break a person out. While married to the children's father i was under a lot of stress because of him, my nerves were shot putting up with his  playing around. I started getting  hives and it got so bad i had to go get it checked out by a a doctor.  He pushed the old man out and shut the door, ask some personal questions and told me to get rid of  him.  Or i was going to have a nervous  break down. I am 5'5" and was down to 97 pounds.  Well did what he said and the hives disappeared .   It was a little hard on the kids but they understood.  They were both teenagers.

Maybe it is not food.

It could be anything, food, mold, dust, animal fur, grass, etc.  I would get an allergy test at my doctors to find the cause and what she is allergic to.

vickysue - I'm sorry you had to go through that, I hope things are much better now for you and your kids.

o2bnocn - Maybe it's a skin condition like psoriasis?  I developed psoriasis a couple years ago, thought it was allergy...

She should see an allergist or dermatologist. Good luck.

Oh man - that's miserable.  I've had my share of hives and other skin allergic reactions - From Lanolin to tree nuts.  From a hive to anaphylaxis.  Between a dermatologist, allergists and common sense eventually I figured out my irritants.  When I first read "My mother keeps breaking out" I was thinking gasp who would make that public... I was thinking breaking out of jail or some other institution.   Thank goodness it's only hives!

Oh my that must be miserable for her and frustrating for you guys.  I certainly hope and pray that you will find a resolution tor this as I can't imagine how horrible this is for her.  My son used to do this when he ate a lot of oranges (we live in FL) Is there anything she eats a lot of or eats every day?
