I make tons of dog snacks..... the best i've made hands down is liver jerky  (YES REALLY)  get a Nesco FD-80A Square-Shaped Dehydrator they are about 65 bucks on Amazon .. its a work horse and will make you tons of treats.  When my friends butcher a cow i get the the whole liver the heart and slice them up .. put the Dehydrator on high  it will handle about 5 pounds of liver at a time .. slice about a half inch thick ... flip the liver after about a hour or its hard to pull off the racks .. then let it go on high another 8 hours.  Open a window or by a over head fan or do in your garage.. 9 hours of cooking liver has a way of well i'm sure you get the drift.   I have a very spoiled dog who sits and barks at the dehydrator while  waiting for this.. If you don't have friends with cows just ask your butcher... pork liver is cheaper and also works.  I do chicken for my dog and chicken gizzards.. even wrapping vegs with the meat.  it sounds nuts but if i go to the pet store and buy a chew i have no idea where it came from and costs me 7 bucks... i can buy a beef roast cut it in strips and make 50 chews and i know its safe.  Don't get a cheap Dehydrator i made the mistake and it was a waste of 30 bucks.  The one i posted gets hot enough to do chicken and i have made tons of snacks.  Be sure to store your snacks in the fridge they last about 2 weeks if the dogs don't drive you nuts first.  Also don't over feed them at first ... too rich !! Now i supply all my friends dogs snacks as well. The stuff you can think up to make is a blast .... hope this helped !!

I did do this once but found it was tedious and pricey for ingredients.  At the time I had 3 cocker spaniels and 2 toddlers - It wasn't worth it for me to make the dogs treats - I much would rather spend the time & money making people treats.  I don't think they really cared on way or the other.

Nope never did that, Do you feel better if it was homemade? I know they love rice, potatoes and carrots, peas, and fruits. My cat is picky, she loves bisque soups, I want to make this but I read how much ingredients this takes a fuwwwy I just buy them at the store, I hope they don't stop selling this kind of cat food because she will be extremely skinny.

I tried making dog treats once for a family member's dog,but they turned out terrible. I must have done something wrong, they were as hard as rocks and I couldn't even get them off of the cookie sheet. i threw the cookie sheet away. I haven't tried it again since then, but maybe I will someday when I get a better cookie sheet. :dog:

My granddaughter is making dog treats and selling them, as a senior project for high school. All the proceeds go to training dogs for the blind, which she is also participating in.

I don't bake dog treats, but there is an organtic store that sells food, treats, everything for dogs and cats.  There is a bakery there that looks like a regular bakery and you pick what treats you want.  Of course there are always tons of free treats and tons of hugs from the staff.  Since we have six dogs, we take two once a week to stock up on food, treats, and hugs!

This sounds like the ultimate description of pessimism.

I did try to bake my dog some home made biscuits a few years ago. I don't think they turned out quite as I had planned though. Lol.
