I had a little knowledge before I got married as I am the oldest of 6 and tried to help whenever I could.  After marriage, I'd call my Mom on holidays to find out how to make some of her delicious dishes.  Now, I'm a fairly good cook thanks to my Mom and my Mother-in-law.

Not a great cook, because it's not something I ever really had an interest in learning how to du, but my Mother and Grandmother taught me some basics and I used a lot of receipe book :)

My mom taught me how to cook. I must admit though I am not as good a cook as she is.

My mother did teach me a lot about cooking and I also watched her a lot in the kitchen and helped her quite a bit. I was very grateful for her help and patience.  I also took cooking classes in school in 6 th grade,7 th grade, 8 th grade and 2 years in high school. I really did learn a lot about cooking and it has helped me to be a good cook. I liked the cooking classes much better than the sewing. I wasn't very good at sewing anyway. I have known a lot of women and men that don't know how it cook and didn't want to take the time to learn.

I learned a little from my mom, but se was not cooking too much... I learned some more from my grandma...
than I learned some little stuff from my teacher when I was in school... and
started improvising on my own..
and ultimately I learned from my hubby!!! He loved to cook and bake when we started dating... so I had to catch up!  :glasses-nerdy:

Mostly from TV shows and from watching my Mom or Dad cook while making dinner for the Family.

From being in the kitchen watching my mother, reading directions on packages, recipes mainly. I know how to cook most things, I still don't know how to cook certain things. I can go by most recipes though and the food usually comes out good.

I taught myself to cook. Both my parents worked and mom was tired after a hard day, so I would get these "brainstorms" for meals. I was too young (preteen) to know it then but my first meal was really pepper steak made with a tomato sauce. I did this a lot growing up but I could never get gravy without the lumps. On weekends, mom would bake. She was fantastic at baking. When she needed to go for hernia surgery, she spent a whole week baking apple turnovers, cakes, pies, and regular meals that she froze in portions. All we had to do was heat them up. She came home to frozen meals but no deserts. :)

During my first marriage, I questioned my mother-in-law about the gravy and she told me to use cornstarch. I've never had a lumpy gravy since. I also got her recipe for "egg cheese" but have never made it to this day. No one likes it except me.

I learned to cook at an early age, when i was 6 i lived  with my grandparents as my family lived way out in the boonies on a ranch.  She  would let me help  on whatever  was going on.  Mom  could cook but  not like grandma.  I picked up on it early. By the time i was 10 i was taking care of my younger siblings and cooking. By the time i was 12 i could make jams and jellies. Took 2 years of home ec.  Which was  sort of boring as we were learning what i already knew. I love to cook and am not afraid of  tweaking anything.
