Do I have OCDC?
« on: February 09, 2017, 07:37:40 am »
My girlfriend came over to borrow one of my dresses for a party she had to attend for work.  I told her to help herself so she walked into my closet.  She burst out laughing and told me I had OCDC because all my dresses are in plastic bags.  All my clothing is arranged tops, skirts, dresses, and pants.  They all face the same way and (please don't laugh), but start light colors to dark, example tops would start white, tan, yellow, pink, blue, green, brown, black, then the skirts, etc.  also if I can find them, the outfits are on coordinating colored hangers.   I now I'm over the top with cleaning as I even dust the light bulbs but I swear I don't think I'm weird.

I mean you certainly seem to prioritize organization in your life. I don't think it is enough information to answer whether you are OCD or not though.

I think there are degrees of OCD. I often count to myself when I do things and I think that's a form of it.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry about what your "friend" said. You just sound organized to me and if you don't think you're weird, then stay who you are. Don't let others define you.  :peace:

I think you are highly organized......your personal preference.

I don't think it is OCD just wanting to have your closet neat and orderly.  Excessive and obsessive care about it could lean toward OCD.

I found a bit of information on OCD regarding organization.  There is also info on cleaning as well as man other symptoms.

Organization
People with OCD can take organizing to the level of perfectionism. "It has to feel just right, look just right, be symmetrical, be the right number [of items]," Szymanski says. This fussiness is often driven by obsessions about order and symmetry.

When to seek help: "I'm neat and organized and like things a certain way, but it is out of preference," says Szymanski, author of The Perfectionist's Handbook. OCD enters in when want to becomes have to: People like Szymanski enjoy a tidy desk and find it helpful, whereas people with OCD may not necessarily want to organize their desk but feel they must, in order to relieve their anxiety.

I used to think these things mattered, my mom was a neat person and lord if you messed something up. Till she got cancer and we both had to deal with the aftermath of chemo treatments.  A perfect outfit might not be so prefect any more when you are sick on both ends. Nor was my pretty car nor my fancy purse when she got sick eating, as hard as it was cleaning the mess up..  and now her being gone I'd give any thing to have those messes to deal with,. .  i still 10 years later I have her candy wrappers and her wadded up tissues in the side pocket of that car and refuse to toss them out.

I am not a psychologist so there is no specialized medical or clinical knowledge behind this question.  But what would happen (aside from you calling the police or feeling that your space was violated) if I snuck into your closet when you weren't home and put a few items "out of order" or switched a light colored item onto a dark colored hanger?  When you discovered that prank, would you be compelled to immediately right the wrong and would you be so compulsive about it that you could think of or do anything else until order was restored?

Or to go back to my earlier point - would your first thought be to restore order or to wonder who was in here, how did they get in here, are they still in my house, should I call 9-1-1?

Who cares whether it is OCD or not? Does the organization make you happy and not bother anyone else? If so, I think it's great you are so organized!

Sounds like more of a neat freak than OCD.  OCD you end up with certain ticks where you absolutely CANT do things differently.

I would love to see your closet!! LOL! You sound a little OCD-ish but maybe more organized than others. I bet your friend wishes she had your talent of bagging the clothes and organizing by sizes and colors...lol. I wish I had your talent! LOL!

I don't think you are OCDC it is just the way you prefer things to be done and makes things easier for you.  I wish I were more like you.  I am the complete opposite and we'll leave it at that lol.

I used to care about that stuff as I posted above, those things just are not as important any more. I did how ever have a friend that WAS .... like out there with OCDC ,  dust the light bulbs ??  she took them all out and washed them with windex.  She also tossed her mother out of the house at X-mas (asked her to leave ) for spilling a drink on the carpet.  And "grounded"  her little boy who was home sick with a cold (gave him cherry cough medicine ) that he threw up on her cream colored carpet.  It wasn't something you could laugh about,  people stopped going to her house and when she started running people down for what she called a messy house I stopped being friends with her.  I don't go to peoples houses to see stuff .. in or out of its place, if it has one!! I go to see that person.. I have seen allot of stuff ....... but it makes  my life an adventure!

Personally I would not consider it OCDC, but I'm not a doctor.  I would love to be that organized.  I see nothing wrong with it.  Seems like you would be able to go to your closet and pick out an outfit quickly.

I wouldn't call it OCD just hyper organized.  I organize my closet somewhat but not like that.  I have shits, pant, and dresses together but not by color.
