Scooters
« on: April 05, 2017, 07:25:14 pm »
I live in a small town and I've been thinking about investing in a Scooter.  I understand that certain scooters can be ridden on the freeway if they have a 250 cc engine, or larger.

In Utah, we must have a motorcycle endorsement on our driver's license to ride a scooter.  There is a beginner motorcycle riders course that would cost $200.  I'm considering taking it this summer.

It seems like a less expensive option than buying a car.

Have you ever owned a scooter or motorcycle?

If so, what kind of tips or advice can you offer?

Have a great day!

I've been thinking of buying one myself, as I don't have a car or driver's licence. As far as I know, in most states you don't need a standard drivers licence to drive a scooter.

My brother has one, but the downside seems to be it needs service every 3 months. Maybe he just has a lemon, but he's spent a small fortune keeping it tuned up.

Google JediJohnnie and May the Force be with you!

Scooters seem like a good option to get around in local road but not on the freeway (too many big cars and trucks speeding).

Does it snow a lot where you live?  I feel like scooters/moped would not be safe on snowy/icy roads.  I have no experience with them though.

Scooters are fun...but can be risky, dangerous. If you do not want to get seriously injured,
do not take them around heavy traffic.

We always had the little ones and would take them to horse shows to bug around on because where we camped was a long way to the horse barns, and made feeding time easier. Never went out on the big roads.

A scooter seems fun to ride. I was thinking of getting one myself, but I wouldn't take it on the highway. I would research a little more about it and see what the maintenance cost is.

My son had one in Florida and really enjoyed it until  the rain destroyed it.  After he pushed it home for several blocks, he decided to get a car.  If you get one just be careful and look out for the other people on the streets texting and driving crazy.

In my youth, my family had a puch moped, i think that is like the scooter of today.  It was a lot of fun & easy to get around.

I think you should do it.. it is a great option.

My Dad bought my husband and myself one each when we lived in Galveston. I was so fun to have them and scoot all over the island. They were battery charged so we had to keep an eye on that or we'd be stuck with no charge somewhere on the island. I'd like to have one now gas powered so that when I need to go into town I wouldn't have to use my car. My husband is against it because of the danger it imposes. So for his sake I'll not get one for now.
