Memorial Day is no day to get into a political debate, but it just got me upset this morning one of my friends who is a seriously die-hard Trump hater claimed that his family, which has a long standing military history, died in vain since we have a Russian Saboteur as our president.  I tried to explain he is tarnishing his family's sacrifice and all those who gave their lives for this country just because he can get beyond his hatred for the president.  People sacrificed their lives so we could remain free and have freedoms not granted in other countries.  He didn't see it that way, but you just can't please some people.

Memorial Day is a bittersweet holiday for me. While the official start to the summer, reunions, beer, brats, and burgers are all on my list of favorite things, i cant help but think of those that made the ultimate sacrifice so that i, and others could enjoy these things. i served in the USMC from 1980 thru 1986 and while i was fortunate to never have faced anything more scary than a pissed off Drill Instructor, many of the with men and women i served with became lifelong friends and made careers for themselves in the Corps that included time spent in the middle east. sadly, a few of them lost their lives fighting for our freedoms. while im sure these brave men and women wouldnt want us to weep for them, i think they would appreciate a bow of your head and a short prayer for loved ones they've left behind before you enjoy your bbq with family, friends and neighbors today.
