a familiar face
« on: June 19, 2017, 07:11:34 am »
There are times when you are out shopping or eating at a restaurant and see someone across the room.
That happened last night to me.
I was eating my dinner in a restaurant celebrating Fathers Day with my mom and dad.
I glanced up and looked over to see a lady with her husband and daughter.
Her blouse looked nice and I thought "I know her. That looks like Betty. Could that be Betty?"
People do look similar and there have been times when you make a mistake approaching someone and it isn't who you thought it was.
When I caught her eye in my direction, I called out to her. She came over to my table.

Have you ever had that happen when you are away from your area by several hundred miles and you see someone who resembles someone you know back home? But you know it cannot be that person?

Or in the alternative, several years ago - I was back in my hometown where I still have some family members, but my wife and I live 3+ hours away.  We were making a LATE night trip to the local Walmart (we unexpectedly needed to try and find a smaller car seat for our daughter before going off the next day for a vacation with my parents).  My wife and I went in and then I doubled back to get a shopping cart while she continued to walk to the baby section.  It turned out that my cousin and her husband were also doing some late night shopping. They saw my wife, but because I wasn't with her, they weren't sure that it was her...  Since they didn't expect to see her there, past 10:00 at night, alone, etc...

Very much like Gerianne narrated, my cousin said to herself: "I know her. That looks like Linda.  Could that be Linda?" Doubting to herself that it was she still approached my wife and carefully asked her: "Linda?"  LOL!  I came walking up to them a few minutes later with a shopping cart and we probably talked for 20 minutes!

That's happened to me, I kept looking over at the person without noticeably staring, and sure glad about that. The person wasn't who I thought they were.

It happened when I was younger. However, nowadays as I'm not as connected with as many people as my school days (despite the availability of social media), I don't see as familiar faces. Of course I can always be distracted a lot.

This has happened to me at a funeral service. I don't know if you remember Jay Buhner who used to play for the Seattle Mariners. I was working the parking lot and a guy looked, talk, and have the same mannerism as Jay and I said, by any chance are you Jay? He said, No but you don't know how many times people have asked that of me. He is the Jay Buhner look alike. He joking said, when Jay wants to take a vacation or go fishing, I just take his place on the team and manager Lou(Pineala) never know.  When i'm playing, I always hit those homeruns. LOL

I've had that happen to me several different times.  Once I was sure I knew this lady and went over to ask how she'd been and it turned out not to be anyone I knew.
