It is a good idea not to call back. You don't want to give them any information whatsoever, including words from your mouth that they might record and try to use in future scams.

There was a thing going a while back where they call and say "can you hear me" and when you say yes they record it and then use that to dub as answers to other questions.  Scammed a lot of people.  I never got that call but I don't answer if I do not know who is calling.  If you get smart with them they will harass the hound out of you.  Some people have had to change their numbers.

I just hang up without saying anything.  It is tempting to speak to the caller, but that just opens the door for them to call back...as others have mentioned.

It is aggravating to receive these calls and wish there was a way to stop them.......the callers must get some people tricked into paying them or they wouldn't keep trying.

They get a lot of people.  You see on the news all the time. Or somebody pays them with a green dot card or itunes card and THEN calls the police AFTER they give the caller the numbers.  I would probably get the call back number and go to the police station and let THEM call back.  I had somebody charge $1300 to my credit card once.  I knew who done it and had proof.  And proof that it was not my charge.  I went to the police department and one of the detectives called my credit card company. lol.  Uh they reversed the charge. haha

I get these calls a lot.  What always makes me laugh is they have such a thick accent, tell me there name is John, I think IF it were a real call, which if course it's not, at least the person calling as they say 'from the United States government", they would speak English

Definitely don't call back! That is just an open invitation for them to keep harassing you. They know it's a working number, and they don't care how angry you get with them, they'll just keep doing it to push your buttons. We had callers in the past, that would call over and over every few minutes, even when we just picked up the phone and hung up without saying anything. That went on for weeks, and since we don't have caller ID on the house phone, we had to answer it to make sure it was really them. Finally, I started reading money-making spiels into the phone, and shortly after they finally gave up. Of course, they were people with American names, but foreign accents.

The IRS will only call if you ignore multiple letters and it's rare that they would even then.

It’s already annoying to receive a lot of strange calls with unfamiliar numbers as it is. If it is important, I let the caller leave a message. I have received one of those calls from the IRS scam by voicemail in the past. Whoever is doing it is trying to scare the victim to return the call to possibly steal their personal information. Just delete the message.

Just got a call from someone saying the IRS has a law suit against me. Should i call them back and say"You stupid fracking *bleep* ,i'll use the better f word,IRS doesn't call people", or just forget about it.

You would receive something in the mail if it was in fact the IRS

You are right. The IRS never calls, but they do send letter by mail if there is a problem with the tax returns.
