I am not sure I want to discuss politics/current events on this forum.

Too many "hot topics", and too many people with strong emotions both sides.

I was a poli sci major in college, have followed this stuff, and history, all my life. I am so sick of the nonsense right now, I would rather leave the weather channel on than turn on the news.

There is a Debate/Discuss thread here on FC that may be more appropriate for current events.  We don't watch regular news at all!  Too much slanted news for our tastes but a majority of ppl probably believe everything they see on the news channels they watch.

What's strange about that? It's possible to get burned out, or just want to discuss something different in your spare time here. Current events COULD be about the weather, but usually just ends up being a political discussion. The media even turns the weather into politics sometimes!

I think talking about Current Events gets too heated sometimes. especially because people have a tendency to hate rather than understand...

Current event do get posted here. There's lots of RIP threads where people pay respect to those that passed.  There are threads whenever there's a bad storm or other natural disaster too.  Threads on politics do get heated here, so best to stay away from those.

Sometimes certain popular discussion topics do get their own discussion thread.

A lot of forums have "Hot Zones."

It is a good way to lose friends and make enemies.

No they actually don't.  People believe what they want to.  And you would think what you see on major network television on the news that it would be true and not just a bunch of made up fake drama that belongs in a high school slam book.  So you can't talk down about people who do believe what they see on the news.
