Though About My Profession
« on: July 30, 2017, 09:23:53 am »
I am a CPA who works on financial statement audits and 401(k) audits.  I am wondering, is there anyone out here that has worked with auditors, and if you have, what has been your experience.  Do you just dread the fact that they are at your office, or do you find that we are not as bad as you would expect.

Obviously, my client's are probably acting like they like us more than they actually do, but I am looking for some honest feedback.

P.S. I am not an IRS auditor and do nothing with taxes.

I have only been audited a couple of times as part of a small organization but both times, I was made to feel that I had been doing something dishonest(even before really getting into the books)

Just be straight up to your clients, trust must be created between each other.

Thank you for this feedback.  I try very hard to not make my clients feel this way.  I realize that they are all human and makes mistakes, and generally, people want to do the right thing.  I have worked with people that make clients feel that way and do so because they believe that it is "professional skepticism."  Although as auditors we must always use professional skepticism, we don't have to act like everyone is a criminal.  I will keep this in mind.
