Do away with '...Someday...'
« on: August 19, 2017, 03:52:55 pm »
How many times do you remember asking your family to do something exciting and met with the response 'someday' and the something turns into 'never happened'? I have tried to replace 'someday' with a concrete date tied to a plan of action. My daughter asked me to take her to a Green Bay Packer's game and I almost said someday but instead told her that I would take her in September of the year in which she graduated. I told her that I would get better seat levels based on her grades and I started saving, finding additional streams of revenue, and investing properly. She surprised me by being the class Valedictorian and I surprised her with tickets on the fifty yard line, tickets to see the Wisconsin Badgers the day before, and wined and dined her like there was no tomorrow. My son earned a Boar hunting trip in Florida and I am saving to take my wife on a luxurious twenty fifth anniversary trip. We can always get absorbed by work-how often can we make a difference for a loved one.

Awe that is very nice of you to do :) I remember someday alot when I was growing up

Just as long as you can always fulfill that concrete date, because if you cant, that would be a let down as well, Id rather here someday

Someday - yes I heard that slot when I was growing up. And yes, I know my husband and I told my son that a lot when he was growing up. Definitely something to take note of as life is short.

Yes, I have quit putting things off for that "someday" that may never come.  I have traveled more the past four years than I probably had the 52 years previously!  More adventures are already in the works.  Now I have a new traveling buddy to take along, my new grandson!
Have a wonderful day!

You are a great dad!  I think we all told our kids one time or another ,,yes someday.  You made your kids someday come true.  Amazing is all I can say.

I think saying someday is just easier. we may not always do what we set out and its less of a disappointment if you can get that thing done sooner than later or not at all.

I keep saying someday I will bring my kids to see where I have grown up. my oldest is only 3 but who knows what life has planned for us.

So I am hoping for next year to have saved enough or to have enough left from taxes.

So true. We say someday or when we have the money are popular phrases we use, but we have to remember that we are not promised tomorrow. We have to remember to schedule time in our busy schedules to spend time with others and doing these things that we can add to our memories.

I'm glad I read this today.  It seems we can always say someday.  Time flies and life goes by.  When it's something important to do we do it.  My husband told me when a guy wants to do something he does..I'm still waiting for a honeymoon.  So in the mean time I've been wanting to do things... get things and have taken matters into my own hands.  It's progress... but yes when we want something to happen we have to make it happen.

My "Someday" that happened last fall, was taking my wife to London and Paris for a week. She is still talking about it.
