Country life vs. City life

I've lived in both over the years and each has its attractions. My choice is to live in the country where it's so much more peaceful--but close enough to a city to take advantage of all that has to offer. So, I live in the country but can be in Philly in 40 minutes.

I would prefer the country life but this didn't/doesn't make sense with two kids.  Events for children (sports, school. etc) have the best core in bigger cities. Living in the country would not allow as much socializing for the children as they would have to walk quite a distance to their friends houses and this would be impossible during the Winter. Gas prices and time constraints make it very impractical to live in the country.  We currently live in the suburbs.  The kids can walk to a friend's house or school.  Sporting activities are all within a ten-fifteen minute drive and spur of the moment emergencies, common with children, are easier to take care of.
