No cooking while posting on Fusion
« on: September 10, 2017, 01:39:12 pm »
I have to REMEMBER to not put food on the stove while I am communicating or posting on Fusion. I burned my rice and had to throw out the pot because it was burned to a crisp because I forgot I had it on the stove and was on Fusion checking the board, commenting and posting. OMG!!!

Word to the wise; from the foolish.  ;)

I'm sure glad your house didn't burn down!

Something similar happened to me. I was cooking tomatoes while working on FC. They boiled over so I had tomato all over the stove...and the floor.  Lesson learned.

Something worse happened to me last week.  I have been really depressed and on meds to help me.  Well most times I am out of it and don't know what I am doing.  I washed some potatoes to to bake them and the same time I had sat out 6 cans to make some spaghetti.   I wrapped up what I thought was the potatoes and went and sat down to watch tv.  Twice I checked on potatoes and they were still hard.   About half hour later my stove blew up, the door went flying and fire all over the place.  It turned out that I wrapped up the cans to bake instead of the potatoes.  The potatoes were still sitting in the sink.   Now I am banned from the kitchen by my husband as long as I take meds LOL.  No one was hurt thank god.  The apartment complex gave us brand new stove today.  The stove I blew up was only 4 months old but that one I did not blow up, I swear.

i have that problem when I go to Facebook because i'm not there a lot anymore and need to catch up with family. i've burned spaghetti sauce, rice, pork chops, hamburger, etc. since my computer is in another room 100 feet or more away from the stove. I need to kick that habit but I usually can't get on Facebook until it's close to supper time.

When I have something on the stove, I put the oven's timer on, which repeatedly goes off if I dont get up and shut it off

Oh my word, I am so sorry for your mishap. Very thankfully nobody got hurt but I'm sure it scared the daylights out of everyone around.  I hope you never, ever experience anymore excitement like that again.  :o

Oh wow, some crazy stories here, so glad no one has been hurt!! My cooking casualties occurred long before I had internet or FC. Roughly 40 years ago, when I was a 1st time mom, I was sterilizing my child's bottle caps and nipples, on the stove, and went outside and forgot about them. Needless to say the pan and all was extremely fried and stinky by the time I got back to it lol. Fast forward about 15 or so years....it was my son's (my first born) b-day and I made him or bought him a cake, which I proceeded to hide in the oven for later. Then decided to make a home made pizza for supper so preheated the oven. Haha totally forgot the cake was in there!!  ;D

So glad everyone is ok.  I usually put the computer away when I know I have to start dinner or tell my husband to start dinner because I have to finish a survey first.  But I do use my timer on my stove when I am doing other things at the same time.

I think the solutions is to get a rice cooker, setting the time and forget it is the new way...of cooking.

It's way too easy to lose track of time on the computer. Same goes for chatting face to face.  Hubby and I forgot that the timer went off (and stopped) for the chicken in the oven tonight. For some odd reason, I said to him, "I think the chicken is ready," and I opened the oven door. Good thing - it was ready to come out. Otherwise, we would be eating dried out bird. Blech!

Anyway, social media and message boards, as well as earning $$ here, are fab ways to lose track of time. They aren't bad ways, but if you have food cooking, you need to set a timer and keep that timer right close to you.

I am glad you and everything is okay. It could have been a lot worst.

I have to make sure I have nothing to attend to when doing the surveys because I can really get lost in the moment when I am working on them.
