Most of the people on here claim that the people who are staring are ignorant, I happen to have a high school diploma and am very successful.
Not to get off topic but...
Being ignorant doesn't mean you don't have a high school diploma or not successful. Even a very successful, college graduate can be ignorant.
To be ignorant, is to lack knowledge in a certain subject. I.e: I could be a very good heart surgeon but when it comes to surgery on the brain or something other than the heart. I could be very ignorant, because I did not study that area of medicine, therefore lacking that knowledge.
Not everyone knows everything, so in my opinion everyone is ignorant in something.
Does that mean I think people who stare at Inter-racial couples are ignorant for it?
They could be, if they are not accustomed to it, which isn't a bad thing it's just how they were raised and where. But if they are just simply watching their surroundings and observing things, I wouldn't consider that as being ignorance. My question is: How would you know? You wont know because you don't read minds, therefor I'd leave it be. Let people stare it's not hurting anyone.
I live in a very small town in maine and pretty much everyone knows each other. I was raised old school, meaning that we follow the traditional values: women stay home while the men work, women marry men (not other women) and whites marry whites. Theres only 1-2 black people living in our small community.
You say you live in a small town, where you follow traditional values that contain, whites marrying whites. I would consider that as you not being accustomed to inter-racial couples. Which is fine, but there's alot of inter-racial couples and children, we aren't living in the past. This is 2009, we have rights, it's not different to be with someone out of your race anymore, and racial conflicts should end in my opinion.
We can't even have a black president without racial conflict because people are stating " He's the first black president " why can't people just say " He's our new president and I can't wait to see what he has to offer "
I just wish everyone could stop seeing the color of the skin, and see past it. We are all humans, blacks, Mexicans, Asians, whites, ect.
