Recently I dated this Kenyan girl and she was just drop-dead gorgeous. I'm german-irish decent and I gotta say it was a real pleasure dating her. I never really noticed anyone staring at us because I was always staring at her fiiiiine figure. OH YEAH!

i think its natural that people just tend to stare, people do stare at lots of different things. it can be people, animal..just anything that can be eye catching.  people stare at me and husband because we are different race but i just smile and go on my way. live your life, dont let them worry you. your the one going home with your man and live your life!!  :)

I wish I knew. I'm In an Inter racial relationship and we're expecting our first baby. My entire family flipped out when they found out because he's mixed. I snapped and told my mother to tell my entire family that Its not anyone's business and Its wrong to talk badly about a baby whose not even here yet. They do not like my boyfriend because of the color of his skin. He Is by far the best guy I have ever dated. He works very hard to make sure me and this baby are well taken care of. He waits on me hand and foot ( He has too since I am on bed rest, took a short break to come on-line ).

I've never cared when people stare. I once told a group of females who were staring at my boyfriend to take a picture, It'd last longer. I personally think It's funny.

I live in a very small town in maine and pretty much everyone knows each other. I was raised old school, meaning that we follow the traditional values: women stay home while the men work, women marry men (not other women) and whites marry whites. Theres only 1-2 black people living in our small community. Some people may call me racist but thats just who I am. Inter-racial children are more likely to get made fun of in schools where there are not alot of black children, and it just looks weird seeing a black & white couple. I personally would not concider dating someone who was black, nor do I have any black, hispanic, or asian friends. Most of the people on here claim that the people who are staring are ignorant, I happen to have a high school diploma and am very successful. Everyone in the united states has a right to their own oppinions, and not get bashed for stating them.

Not to get off topic but...

Being ignorant doesn't mean you don't have a high school diploma or not successful. Even a very successful, college graduate can be ignorant.

To be ignorant, is to lack knowledge in a certain subject. I.e: I could be a very good heart surgeon but when it comes to surgery on the brain or something other than the heart. I could be very ignorant, because I did not study that area of medicine, therefore lacking that knowledge.

Not everyone knows everything, so in my opinion everyone is ignorant in something.

Does that mean I think people who stare at Inter-racial couples are ignorant for it?

They could be, if they are not accustomed to it, which isn't a bad thing it's just how they were raised and where. But if they are just simply watching their surroundings and observing things, I wouldn't consider that as being ignorance. My question is: How would you know? You wont know because you don't read minds, therefor I'd leave it be. Let people stare it's not hurting anyone.

You say you live in a small town, where you follow traditional values that contain, whites marrying whites. I would consider that as you not being accustomed to inter-racial couples. Which is fine, but there's alot of inter-racial couples and children, we aren't living in the past. This is 2009, we have rights, it's not different to be with someone out of your race anymore, and racial conflicts should end in my opinion.

We can't even have a black president without racial conflict because people are stating " He's the first black president " why can't people just say " He's our new president and I can't wait to see what he has to offer "

I just wish everyone could stop seeing the color of the skin, and see past it. We are all humans, blacks, Mexicans, Asians, whites, ect.

I feel sorry for you.  There's a whole world of different people and experiences that your missing out on by not getting to know different people.  I have dated every race out there and have friends of different races.  All of my serious relationships have been interracial including my current bf and I wouldn't want it any other way.  What I have found in general is that people are all the same but at the same time their cultural differences and getting to know people of different cultures and races has been something that has enriched my life.

I would never have come to love with Filipino food and culture had it not been for my first love who was Filipino.  One of my good friends at work is Filipina.  I've been to the Philippines myself.  I would have never have learned so much about Chinese culture (and learned some of the language) had I never left the US and lived in Taiwan and made awesome Taiwanese friends there or met my Taiwanese bf.

I'm not saying you or anyone else should just go out and date someone of a different race just because.  You never know what you might experience by getting to know different kinds of people.

First of all I would like to say that even with your diploma and education that you are more ignorant then a little bit. I am multi-racial and I love who I am. And I must admit that being multi racial at times were hard for me because of simple minded people. But to go further into this, how can you be racist and there is only one human race. I think that you have issues with things that you don't understand. This is 2009 not the 1800's. Men take care of children now, women work, people hire other peole whether they are purple or green, groups of friends come like the rainbow so where have you been during the changing times. You should leave history and the ignorance that came with it in the past. I am filipino, hawaiian, samoan and black and I am proud of who I am and what I look like. God made me just the way that he wanted me. And when people stare, I know that it's because their parents didn't teach them any better.  I just can't stand the ignorance that come from narrow minded people!  :angry7:

It could be a few things, honestly-first, of course, is stupidity or ignorance.  People that don't know what to think or just are seriously that confused by it.  Maybe they're curious.  Maybe they don't think it's right.  There's nothing wrong with interracial couples-whatever makes you happy :)
One other thing, though, is that some people watch for people to look!  When I'm walking in a mall or down the street or whatever, I scan faces to see if I know anyone or whatever-maybe I do it subconciously sometimes, maybe I hear a voice that sounds familiar-I don't know.  If someone looks maybe familiar, I look a second longer at their face.  Is it possible that some of the people you guys think are staring because they're being jerks are just glancing over or something like that?  Sometimes I think it's not fair to read into things so much!!
