Strange phone number

So about once a month for the last 5 months I have been getting a call from this strange number, its in my area code, and has the same prefex as my cell phone number, but I don't answer it ever.  No voicemall either....

We do not answer calls we do not know anymore. Not sure why we are on the do not call list does not seem to help.

Even stranger is the numbers that show up cant be real phone numbers.  They have a V then a bunch more letters and numbers.

I always look up phone numbers I don't recognize.  I then "block" them on my cell phone.  Of course then comes another call from another number, I block it.  Blocking them on my cell only takes a few seconds so as long as they keep calling, I'll keep blocking.

That's why I downloaded an app on my phone that automatically screens for potential spam and telemarketer calls . It auto blocks known fraudulent numbers and  flags other as telemarketer, suspected spam, or robocaller . My phone used to ring constantly from spam and it's been cut back greatly

Just a moment ago I was getting a call from a number I do not know.

I ignored it.

Sometimes they leave a message, and that is annoying.

I was visiting an older neighbor the other day, and he answered it, and told them he did not have time to talk and to call back another time, thinking that would get rid of them. He did not want to be impolite.

I told him to hang up, and he did, only after saying good-bye.

Neighbor is a sweetie, and doesn't get it.

I never answer...and putting them in my Do Not Call list doesn't always help....some of them just call from a new number

I have also gotten calls from numbers that have my area code and prefix.  Since we get new staff at work, I used to answer thinking it was a call from one of those new team members.

It has usually turned out to be a telemarketer about some travel service.

Some of the asshats are now spoofing other legitimate caller ID names. I'm not sure how they do it, but we occasionally get calls at my office from spammers whose caller ID comes up as a general local government office or department that we would otherwise expect to get occasional calls from.

I found those to all be sales calls. I get 4-6 of those every day. I have the feeling they are connected to surveys/offers I look (yes, only look at) during the week.

I don't answer those anymore either. The only ones I answer are those that are real Caller ID callers or recognized numbers.

Yup...I dont answer those calls too.  If I dont know the number, I dont answer.. leave a vm if you want to get in touch with me.

Yes it's free. The one I use is only for AT&T customers but there are similar free ones available
