Family Issues
« on: November 19, 2017, 04:29:41 am »
Hello! :D :)

Since thinking about starting a family I've been thinking about finding my father side of the family. I don't know why when I was younger I didn't ask more questions about my father. Now in my thirties I want answers, like why is my hair kinda like 3 different colors and it's not the normal hair color of African Americans. Furthermore I remember one time my boyfriend ask me seriously if I was adopted as I didn't look like my mother. I wanted to know have any of you taken a dna test, if so how did it went? :rose:  :rose: :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

No... I've never taken a DNA test to determine whether I was adopted or not as I didn't need it, but have always wanted to take an ancestry test. I think taking the DNA would be good, but maybe you should just talk to your mother about your feelings on the subject.

It's amazing what they can do these days with DNA. I can identify with your wishing you had asked more questions at an earlier age. Family details were not important to me when I was younger, and now that I have no one left to ask, I'm full of questions. Good luck with your pursuit.

Your hair color doesn't really mean that much.  Lots of things could make your hair different.  A DNA test is not going to tell you anything unless he takes one too (assuming you think you could possibly have been adopted).  You should be able to look at your birth certificate.  Pretty sure it doesn't have the adopted parents names on there as birth parents. I could be wrong. The DNA tests they advertise on television I think mostly just tell more like the origin of the country your ancestors are suppose to be from. Although I am not sure how they could know that. I honestly do not know several and I mean several generations back where my family came from. My dad's side I know less than my mom's. I know quite a bit on her side. Bigger family on that side though.

I am not sure what you can find out from them tests. But would be interesting to know and not from someone who is trying to sell me something. haha. You would be surprised what all you can find out by going to the court house and looking at records that are public info. Or even googling your own name and your father's name along with the town you live in and the town you were born in or grew up in.  And don't pay for the first thing that comes up.  Just go to a different site.  Lots of info out there that you do not have to pay for.  I don't trust the pay me for the info sites anyway.  Good luck with your quest.  I am sure if you are wanting to do this there are reasons and concerns that you have that no one else can understand.

No I never took a DNA test or thought of doing one...I know who my parents are. But a genealogy test would be interesting.

The DNA testing and kits they advertise on TV are suppose to show more than just WHO your parents are.  Supposedly shows where your ancestry comes from like what country. I don't know how that is suppose to work though. A girl I use to work with done it but by the time she got the results we were no longer working together.

Yes, if we only knew when we were younger to ask the questions while many of our elders were still around.
I have a couple of boxes of pictures that I have no clue who or how they are related to me.

I have met many people who have taken the ancestry.com test. You may want to look in to that. You probably want to find out about your dad's family.

Hello! :D :)

Thanks for your suggestions. Yes Ideally the birth certificate should be able to tell me a lot nonetheless it's in french and I can't read french. I'm thinking about having my boyfriend read it to me as he read and speaks french before I take the  tests. As I'm not sure if my dead father is really my father I can't make him take the test with me. It's just so many factors envolved and I'm not sure if a test can help me answer all my questions. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:
