cell phone as main phone
« on: September 24, 2009, 12:45:57 pm »
I decided to shut off my home phone and make my cell phone my main phone. Im wondering if anyone else has done that? Also, would really love to hear from other members what they feel the pros and cons are.

I just did this last month.

Pro: it costs a lot less
Con is I always lose my cellphone, cell phones batteries die.

Google is your friend. You can find me there. Can I find you there?

I'm thinking about getting rid of my house phone. I hardly ever talk on it anymore. It's just so convenient to use the cell phone.

I haven't had a home phone in 7 years. for the last 7 years i have my cell and my husband has his. It is nice cause it saves money and you can take it with you. It can be bad if you loose your cell then you have no phone but altogether i think it is a great thing i charge my phone every night and it is ready to go all day not to mention with a cell you can text and a landline you can't good luck with your choice

Me and my boyfriend have a house phone, but we only use it to connect to our DSL. We keep it turned off all the time because the only people who ever call it are telemarketers. The pros would be, being able to make a call from anywhere, voicemail if you cant awnser it right then, contact lists, calendars, Being able to call cellphones anywhere using free mobil to mobil... I think that having a cellphone is alot better than a landline.

I got rid of my house phone almost a year ago when I switched from dsl to broadband.  I like having my cell phone as my main phone because telemarketers havent quite started slamming cell phones yet like they do land lines, one less bill, there arent really long distance numbers - just minutes to think about and you can play games, music and even get online with some phones.  The only downfall I've found is people who still use land lines cant always call a long distance cell phone (my best friend has this problem with my cell phone) and I only have 1 number to get a hold of me for employers or such.  Also, I did live in an apartment once that had a front gate that dialed your home phone and you had to dial 8 to let them in...but thats a rare need for a phone.

Thats what we did. The pro is less cost and it's just more convenient. The problem my family ran into was that everyone who had our phone number didn't know we shut it off. Who knows how many important calls we missed : (  And i missed my orthodontist appointment for like 3 months because they couldn't remind us. Be sure to contact everyone and tell them you are changing your number

We shut our home phone off earlier this year after my husband took a pay cut at work.  I have missed it a time or 2 but not really as we never used it much anyway.

I tried that, but went back to a cell and a home phone because no cell phone picks up in or around my house, I always had to run out the back door to be able to pick it up.  So I decided I needed a house phone as well.

Most of my friends and family did this long ago, but I can't seem to bring myself to ditch my landline yet. I'm with the poster above, I misplace my phone sometimes and in an emergency that wouldn't be cool.

Yes I do because I cannot afford to have a land line plus cell phones have everything included such as long distance.
